1972 is about the only year I would consider a USA market SL. In later years they had all sorts of special and unique problems that make them not worth it, including:

- Sealed beam headlights with about the brightness of a cigarette lighter
- Anemic performance after about 1974 (e.g. later 450s are 160hp vs 200 in AU and 225 in europe)
- Chrysler sourced climate control that never works and costs and arm and a leg to fix
- Railway sleeper bumper bars from 1973
- Single row timing chain for first 3 years of 380SL
- 1974-75 models have catalatic converters in the engine bay who's heat causes massive problems

and top it off that they are generally not cheaper than a RHD local car.

A wealth of information!
Thanks Bryce. 😊

All of these points, especially the single row timing chain make me wonder why ?

Over-priced; over-sexed and over-here.
Thistle Green? It pays to read the paint code boys....
Regards,
Brian
Ps: and clearly owned by someone over-weight ....

SILVER GREEN it is - there is no such colour as Thistle Green. BenzBoy, in the overall scheme of things, it doesn't appear to be a bad car - perhaps a little overpriced but then, again, you just never know......do you ! Regards Styria

It does look like a nice clean car. The tick would be to upgrade the alternator and install and electrically powered AC unit. I have seen some very neat examples of that on custom cars and there is no darg on the engine.
It would appear the seller has a collection of fine motor cars.
Regards,
Brian

Indeed. However, this install can be pricey and its probably better to find a nice W116 that already has A/C fitted!

How about this 1958 Facel Vega check out the price.

The Facel is for sale at Lorbek’s in Victoria.

There was a blue Facel Vega at the Tea Gardens Motorfest at least ten years ago it was a superb car!

https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Facel-Vega-1958/OAG-AD-15473867/?Cr=0

It's a very impressive automobile. Don't know what these are worth so can't really comment on the price.

Has been relisted. I like that the timing chain is done.

I suspect there is nothing more expensive than a cheap W140.
