Sort of a car of the week. I traveled to Tuncurry yesterday to visit my sister who’s friend wanted me to look at a car of his that is surplus to his needs in his retirement years.
He is a Jag & MG buff.
I checked this car out today which is a 2000 model 4L V8 S Type.
But I also wanted to include pics of his showroom quality MkII, which of course the S Type was based.
2 beautiful cars.
One for sale, one not.

Agreed mate.
A lovely MkII.
I should have taken pics of the interior and under bonnet when he showed me.

This guy used to own a number of new car dealerships in Taree.
He has some seriously nice cars
Including a stunning 458 Ferrari.

Michel,
He is after $8,500.
However i discovered a pretty bad oil leak at the drivers side front.
He pulled out the paperwork and just late last year he had done a full service to the car, plus they re sealed the rocker covers due to an oil leak in the same area.
Either they didn’t fix it properly, or they didn’t find the proper culprit at all.
It will be going back next week for it to be fixed.
Every fluid has been changed on the car, it has 4 new tyres, new brakes all round, and a new battery.
It is registered until December. Speedo is 168k.
Considering there is really nothing to spend, I think it’s pretty good value.
Everything works as it should.

Some issues I also found were the very rear of the hood lining is coming away from the roof, the auto dimming rear vision mirror fluid has penetrated into the mirror its self thus the mirror will need replacing, the mechanic who did the rockers covers has put a small scratch on the top of the passenger side guard, and the windscreen guys cracked the plastic trim between the dash and the windscreen.
This would probably glue back together ok, as it is just plastic.
The interior is 9/10 and is cream leather.
Door & window seals are 10/10 as it has always been in a garage.
Some small stone chips as you would expect on a country car, but still an easy 9/10 for external paint & condition.
All in all a very nice car, it drives very well, smooth, quiet and steers true.

Nice narrative and great description.
Indeed, sounds like a decent price.

I thought the 1969 230 W114 must have been sold as the car was no longer advertised on Carsales or Gumtree clearly I was wrong.

The 230 has been for sale for close to two years the original asking price was $50K.

I have seen the car which is a local car it is a superb car it will be interesting to see how much the car ends up selling for.

The 230 won the best in class pre 1980 trophy at this years MBCCC AGD.

It sure is a lovely looking car Tim.
It just has some of the best classic Mercedes Benz lines that we all know and love from days gone by, but will never be forgotten.

Thanks Michel,
I can also deliver the long write up (like I do with truck reviews) if needed
Ask Brian, I can bore people to sleep in minutes :D

WOW!!!
$50k for a /8? And for a 230?
No wonder it hasn't sold.

If the owner is asking this, it can only be because he's told his wife he'll sell the car but has no intention of actually doing so.

Even a pristine 280CE Series 1 would attract minimal interest at this price.

sold for $15,209. Sounds about right for a /8 in great shape that is not a 280E

That’s good money in this current car market Bryce.

Just goes to show, a nice car that is prepped well will always sell for a good price.
That 230 is a prime example of a well looked after car.

A mate of mine is selling a pretty nice 60’s El Camino.

But he just doesn’t present it well, and when people come to look, they walk away.
Dirty cars just don’t sell when you want good money.
Unfortunately he won’t put a few $$ into it to sell it.
