Sorry Tim but it almost looks like a parts car due to current value off W220 getting boot repaired and suspension could be more than car is worth in good condition . As boot impact could mean damaged boot floor

Styria 2008 means it doesn't have earlier brake issues and 5.5 litre M273 is 4 valve engine with 60kw more than earlier M113 . it also has distronic radar

M273 engine OK, but may have known sprocket wheel problems.
Mercedes had to deal with a court case because of this.
M273 a much updated development on the M113 design, with 4 camshafts (not 2) and variable valve timing, a bit more economical and powerful.

I am looking for a C209 coupe CLK500 , with a 5.5 M273 engine, but it HAS to have an engine number of more than #8612, to avoid the sprocket wheel problem, but that as right at the end of the C209 production in 2009.
Could very well turn out to be a futile search.
Although CLK 500's with the 5.5 litre M273 engine were produced in 2009, I don't think that any were sent to Australia in 2009 or 2010.

I would agree with you. I would have though such would be worth more. A very good standard-steel bodied MkVI would bring around $60,000 plus. A coach-built equivalent may bring a little more.
Hopefully this is not a sign of a collapsing market?

I agree with C107 and Benzboy but recently auction prices have been down with cars failing to reach reserve . It appears a nice driver though. As for the C209 and M273 most would have been replaced with sprocket issues by now it is over 10 years ago . Hopefully car you look at has service paperwork listing this job SEL 69L.

I don't typically follow MkVI values as the model doesn't have as much appeal for me as the earlier (Derby) or later (S series) models. However, on carsales right now there are:

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/Bentley-Mark-VI-1948/OAG-AD-16486939/?Cr=3

$40k

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/Bentley-Mark-VI-1949/SSE-AD-5780654/?Cr=4

$55k but butchered with a ford 4.1 liter

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/Bentley-Mark-VI-1951/OAG-AD-16481116/?Cr=5

$60k.

Not sure what that represents, but I will say the bottom car has been for sale for many many months.

Small sample size, but the feeling I am getting is the market has probably softened.

Probably the market has softened. I am not a fan of the MKVI - especially the 4 1/4 litre. The R which followed is better but still not as desirable as an S.
Having said that, really good MKVIs usually change hands within the club and at a price that reflects their condition.
I had the opportunity recently to drive one with 30,000 original miles on it and it was significantly superior to any other I have driven. That makes you wonder how good some restorations really are.
Regards,
Brian

Don't park it outside in the rain or under a sprinkler. With a bent boot lid like that it'll fill up with water.

Gents,
I went and checked out the W140 S600 today.

I have to say, this is a nice car.
Interior an easy 9/10
Exterior 8.5/10
Under bonnet 9.5/10
Boot interior, tools and spare 4/10
Log books still in it, been very well maintained.
Amazing triple seal door rubbers and double glazing.
Glass sun roof has a slight issue.

She runs sweet as a nut, but couldn’t drive it today as no trade plate available.

She is a big car and visually huge compared to the W126 560SEL
Makes the W220 look like a C class.

I will be going back to drive it.

Patrick did you ever go back and take another look at the S600?

Hi Bryce.
I’ve been away with work a fair bit since then, and am currently waiting in the lounge at Brisbane to get home.

The guy negotiating the sale said he will contact me if he can swing a trade plate.
He hasn’t done so yet.

I have a trade plate, but I can’t use it on his car.

Trade plate regulations are very strict these days.

Good luck with the car, seems like the seller isn't in a big rush to sell.

As this is the 500th post of this thread, here is a rather nice looking 500SE:
