Michel........ Im not even sure where to start answering your question about the car I was looking at lol

The car actually does have a sand flea infestation compliments of the owners cats, (Greg pulled 3 off his leg after sitting in the car for a moment) it has roof damage where it looks like someone walked over top of it and it has been resprayed at opposite corners and done cheaply.

The car also smells and there was evidence of urine on the leather.

Add to that the gaps in history and a few other tell tale signs of neglect like platic trim badly glued back on they can go take a flying leap because it isnt worth the 6k they were looking for.

I had a friend who used to collect cars from interstate for me have a look while he was in the area while I was on the phone to him and we didnt even start the car nor would he sit in the thing again and when the owner threatened to send it to scrap in a pissy fit we both suggested it was a good idea.

Greg also mentioned that the owner was placing a pest bomb on the front seat as he was walking back to his truck.........

Yummo!

Gee Tony,

When you mentionned a Dog with fleas, I expected you to be making a comparison and not an exact description :eek::eek:

How else are you going to clean your exhaust pipe and mufflers Timmy? I assume you have already done this anyway? The underbody must be as clean as the day the car sat on the Dealer's forecourt. Have you tackled any of this yet?
Regards,
Brian

Tim might have to stop driving it in the rain!!!

it was the pest bomb that concerned me lol

those things spray straight up so the headliner is going to carry a ton of residue especially if they have done that before.

My mate reckons he is still scratching......

Psychosomatic itches im sure but apparently i owe him big time!

Last car I had him look at has spiders and mud wasps lol

A very good mate who has in the past pulled cars out of farms, sheds and all sorts of places including 3 cars bulldozed into a gully and left on a property.

But I made his dream car dream come true too so its a mutually beneficial friendship if nothing else.

Either way the biggest issue is salt and seaspray.

I had a place just off Nepean Hwy years ago protected by coastal bushland etc and the salt still got onto the cars.

I'd just hate going to all that effort to get a car to concours level and then make a mess by driving in the rain. Rainwater and dirt sprayed underneath won't wreck a car (short-term), but it'll wreck all your hard work.... :(

Two new Toyo 15" tyres fitted & balanced on Thursday.

Becker radio reception was nothing but static for the last month had to have a new Hirschmann o4 aerial mast fitted.

At last I can listen to the radio without static!

What is the best way to clean the exhaust tail pipes on the 300SE?

Ends of the tail pipes need to be sanded back and repainted black.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers Slim.

Seeing that this is going to be some sort of Detailing Day, some sort of Food Eating Day, some sort of Lazying About Day, some sort of Doing Nothing and enjoying Each Others' Company Day, would the host agree and consider that :

We turn up a little earlier than eleven or twelve o'clock, but say

9.30 10.00 10.30

so we can stand around the cars, talk about nothing, look at "this" and "that" (detailing tips, criticize each others' cars :)D)) and then wander in and have something to eat and drink. Any suggestions or responses to the above ?

Regards Styria

Purchased a new AG AutoGlym car product at Repco yesterday.

Just wondering if anyone here has used the AG leather cleaner before if so what is your opinion of the product?

I have never used the AG leather cleaner before myself.

Also purchased a bottle of AG SRP and AG glass polish.

errrr I have little to contribute to Concours cleaning as im more a mechanical perfection guy but my observations of Concours cars is that cleaning is probably only 1/3rd of the equation with originality and condition being the other parts.

And when it comes to cleaning its not just what you can see standing next to the car but whats underneath as well.

My 300SEL used to get a professional Concours clean every 6 months which I would then try to maintain, as the car would do 300 ish km per day it didnt take long to deteriorate but at $600 per clean (Mates rates) I wasnt going to do it more than twice a year.

And NEVER EVER EVER use commercial car washes.

I wondered if anyone knew of someone who offers professional Concours cleaning and detailing here in Melbourne? I use my 450SE about 3-5000km per year.

Thanks Bram

I think it largely comes down to cost. At this level it’s very time consuming and labour today is insanely expensive. And you’d be a very lucky person indeed to find someone you can trust to achieve your expectations, since almost no-one takes pride in their work anymore.

I’d suggest you find an energetic EX-concours judge!!
