My dear Tarek..... patience....

Do you know how many times I have told the Godfather I'm selling the Red Terror?

This car has gone (stupidly) over budget, driven me mad with little niggly things that kept breaking or breaking down...
Even last week, when we thought we had the whole thing running, I went to it the next morning and it simply refused to start.

Patience man... tawwil balak... :D

OUCH! Frustrating indeed Tarek.

Once bits go missing and the blame game starts it will leave a nasty taste behind so i understand it a bit better now.

Id still sit on the car for a while and see what eventuates and if there is still no joy then get rid of it.

Thanks TONY , that exactly what i'm trying to figure out , do they will succeed in retrieving the missing pieces or no go , plus the car is driven for the moment to be checked and changing all bad mechanical parts which means money to spend again. with no end of the tunnel.

I think both Tarek and Michel need to grab a bar of soap and wash their mouths out!!!! I hang my head in shame.....

Seriously though, if car restoration was easy, everyone would be doing it! It can really test our patience and you need nerves of steel. And I've never been in it for the money, but more so the satisfaction of doing things myself and my way. And then cruising for the rest of my life!

If I wanted money, I'd be a hermit and invest in gold, property or some other boring endeavour! But remember guys n gals; you only live once and you can't take it with you. Despite what it might look like, he who dies with the most toys doesn't win; it's about experiences! And there's no point being the richest person in the cemetary. :D

Part of the problem is that in Australia at least Every man and his dog that has tinkered with an old car seems to think they can do restoration work.

Some of the stories we were told and the work we had to undo and re-repair was horrendous.

And as Tarek is finding out the Method is important and the devil is in the details.

LOTS of plastic tubs, Shelves and zip loc bags. Dedicated work spaces and a methodical approach to disassembly, then restoration and finally assembly.

Break this chain and it turns nasty and this is why I implemented my system working on the basis that should the work be done bar reassembly that the project could be handed back to the client should he or she wish to do the reassembly themselves.

And we did this a few times once the offer was made (By me) and it went really well for the client.

Sit tight Tarek!

Hey MARK , if i'm complaining for the money spent doesn't mean i'm after profit financially , i would be much better off without starting this project , i would also bought like 3 w116 for the same money wasted, all this doesn't count if the result was acceptable ( which isn't) , still the road is long it seem .

THANKS TONY you are right all the way , and i was expected that they treat the 116 same way as the RED PIG but along the way they ruin everything. i might need complete interior to fix my problems which means much more money , or means i'm a subject to scam ,i will figure this out , now i am thinking how to get out of this trap .

MARK i agree with what you say about everything , be sure i was there for the fun and money was not my goal.

Maybe your workshop is better at modifications than restorations?? If they're losing bits which will cost you more in the end, I'd be taking both projects somewhere else. Particularly if you no longer have trust or confidence in them. If you mention these issues and the fact you're considering taking your money elsewhere, the parts might suddenly re-appear!!

Really I can't see how someone can lose so many things that you'd need to buy a whole new interior.... Dare I suggest they're going out the back door to be fitted to someone else's car???

Cheers Tarek, Sadly this doesn't fix your issues with the shop but id still sit and wait a bit and see what shows up once everyone has cooled down.

Good luck mate.

My dear Tarek, you have certainly confused me in a number of ways - well, you are not really specific about a number of issues.

1. I might need a complete interior - why ? What's wrong with it ? Is it badly worn, poor quality, wrong colour, was it in the car at the time when you bought it ? Why did your mechanic suggest to you at the beginning not to have this interior ?

2. Bad mechanical parts - which ones ? Changing fuel pump and filter may only be part of regular maintenance. What else is wrong ? Did you have the car checked over before you bought it ?

3. Retrieving missing interior (?) pieces - what are you missing ? I have boxes of interior parts as spares. Surely I would be able to help you if you told us what you need.

4. The car looks alright, but too many small things not to my liking - what is it that's not to your liking ? Is it mechanical, is it a body issue, what is it ?

You know Tarek, why not take some photos and put them on TK ? At least, that way we can collectively ascertain some manner of advising you, or helping you - or, if nothing else, you will satisfy my curiosity, and in the process remove a certain level of confusion on my part. Regards Styria

N.B. What about Red Piglet - are you happy with "IT" or "HER".

My DEAR GODFATHER , lets try to answer few of your questions but first the car BLU is driven for last week by my MECHANIC who is a friend since i had my 126 ( 25 years ago) , due to test drive he had to change few parts as fuel tank , fuel pump , distributor, couplings ( AXLE SHAFTS) and the drive shaft those parts alone costs over 4000 USD and was not expected nor seen and i was not happy about it , plus the A/C is not yet working but that is electrical problem with other guy the electrician and not an issue here.
My main frustration is the upholstery the car interior was completely missing and till now they didn't find the mounts for the door handles , chrome ends etc , all the small items which finish the car.
seats are very soft means he springs are weak need to be increased or fixed.
the car was bought with all this parts but when they dissemble it i was not around so i don't know where is the things, had to make new carpets and bought new center console but most of small items still missing like for example the red flasher in the middle , the vacuum system of center look still not properly done. GODFATHER i can write a book but wait till the car is registered on TUESDAY and i will try to take few photos.

car color was changed and i chose it so no one can be blamed but me and that blue with blue seats doesn't look ideal .

RED PIGLET is in far better shape but still with remarks specially the missing fifth wheel ( 17 inch rim) and the steering wheel need to be changed and not yet found.

Your know something Tarek...

I like red cars, but I also have a soft spot for W116 vehicles and your BLU is one of my favourites.

It pains me to see you losing faith and enthusiasm.

Ignore it for a few days .
Tell the mechanic (your old friend of 25 years) that it is HIS problem and he has to help you sort out the mess.

Normally it works in the Middle East...

Thats a damned good idea actually!

The other guy who lost the parts is far more likely to come good to a third party than to you especially if it might mean no more work from your Mechanic and if he cant find them then he may make good with replacement parts.

Michel you are a Genius!
