Still batting on with the manifold, with lots of hurdles & some compromises in the way. I managed to complete some updated calculations to accomodate additional mods, but it fortunately didn’t change dimensions significantly.

And I’ve also come up with a Stage 3 manifold, which will be the most extreme version & will most likely need a bonnet bulge

Updates on the project:

Having difficulty sourcing alloy plate for the main flanges due to COVID restrictions! I have to fix my pedestal drill to drill them on an angle & buy a die grinder for finishing.

Injectors & rails selected & funds ready to purchase!

I found a higher res pic of the AMG ITB M117 engine and it turns out to be just a 5.0L!!! 338kW NA is EXCELLENT!

Oh and another pic shows a 6.0L with a more std intake. Torque was closing in on the M100.

For the sake of completeness I’ll add the 580-600hp CanAm M117 & the failed attempt using the AMG 6.8 with modified tunnel rams. Interesting that it was apparently 200hp down compared to other engines. I’d suggest internal restrictions didn’t help.

The best news I’ve had all year is restricted Melbourne retail opens up tomorrow & the Metro/regional border will allow through traffic (within 25km from home) on 8th Nov, which is when I start leave for 2 weeks!!

All the videos I’ve heard have the Red Pig emanating a terrible soundtrack & it actually sounds like mechanical injection! It definitely does not give the impression of power or an efficient performance engine. I think they got various aspects quite wrong...

Under the bonnet of the original AMG 450SLC racing car revealing parts of the intake setup.

Spoke to my fabricator yesterday who will be CNC machining the base plates once I source the materials. I will be doing more of the rest myself since he’s flat out until June 2021!!!

I just managed to get a far better screenshot from one of the AMG 450SLC YouTube vids.... Seems AMG were convinced twin throttles and plenums were the way to go.

Weber anyone?? A 450SLC in Asia of all places! It appears to be an AMG replica (incorrectly sporting post merger stickers), but a nice attempt regardless!

Playing around with air boxes to see what might work. If nothing suits from the MB parts bin I might have to go custom like most other parts for the EFI.

Note the inlet is much larger than that from a 6.9 and quite a bit bigger than a 560 (on one side & maybe not when you combine the 2 inlets).
