Seems inconsistent since some sold for a decent price yet others were flat. Is this the sole way they do business now or is there in person auctions available??

On inflation I must admit I have no idea. I can’t see how someone buying a new TV might affect the price of energy or groceries! Perhaps I should start another post....
I think very special cars are still getting good money - hence the A124 did well for example. The A124 is such a low production car and the 320 is really appreciated by collectors, especially in a good colour like that.

6.9s have dropped in value as so much is NLA, most Benz buyers are scared of them. Plus the car on offer was a terrible example that has been shopped around to 3 other auction sites over the last year. I am surprised it bid up to what it did, as at 18k you have to spend 100k to put it right or buy an ok 6.9 for 35 or a very nice one for 50.....

On the topic of the outage in particular, because it was the main website, savvy buyers could still get to lots via direct link, so it impacted some percentage of people, not all. It also impacted lots later in the order more, as it went down at about quarter past six, so if you were already logged into the site it never impacted you - its if you wanted to come later.

As much as I like Bills car, I think its real market value is half that asking price.

The cars the real collectors are willing to pay for are:

- Australian delivered
- Ultra low mileage (less than 100k on the clock)
- Documented service history since day dot with detailed invoices from the various mechanic shops it has been to
- documented history of something special about the car - e.g. who owned it, is it a real AMG.

As nice as it is, this car doesn't tick any of those boxes. I would personally have it above pretty much any other 6.9 in the country - but I don't think the market will agree.

There is a reason why I got my 560SEC for next to nothing. Its an import without extensive service history. I might prefer imports to Australian delivered but the market certainly does not.
The Peter Lennox 6.9 is advertised for around 1/2 the price of Bill's old car, however I don't believe the PL car is anywhere near as good, despite the way it's been portrayed. It'd be interesting to know if there are any Aussie cars that remain with ultra low kms, but TBH I'd prefer a grey import over an Aussie any day, due to higher output engines and better option packages. Perhaps I'm one of the few that view things this way? The only things against the greys are the general lack of history/books, rust (even the Aussie cars aren't immune) and the lack of side intrusion bars in the doors.

I thought “car of the week” would be a good place to put this.
I’ve been fascinated by this car since it’s inception, but besides some specs, really didn’t know much about it at all.
Doug does a fantastic job really taking us through this amazing car to really show all of its quirks & features.
It really is worth the 39 minutes to watch as some of the things are just amazing.

The whole import thing is really very interesting. I speak to a lot of people in the MB clubs in Australia who are looking to buy cars, mostly in NSW but sometimes in other states. 95% of the time, the one requirement they just will not budge on is that the car MUST be Australian delivered.

now the cars are over 30 years old, I don’t really get it but this is the prevailing wisdom in the MB club community. It’s also what makes the imports such a bargain but also hard to sell. I don’t really care as I have no plans to sell my 560SEC, and the fact that it was a code 822 220kw car is one of the reasons for the purchase. You do have to be carful buying though and pay less than half of the price of the same car if it was Australian delivered.

separately that Doug video looks good. Got that in my queue on YT to watch. Thanks for posting.

In the good old days (10-15 years ago for me....) before the used car market went crazy, I wasted so much time looking at rusty grey import BMW's and Jaguars such that whenever I saw a kmh/mph speedometer I would completely discount them from my mind.
Most of the appeal was that UK Jags were often hi-compression, non-CAT models. UK BMW's seemed to be the same spec as Australian delivered BMW's, but often had manual gearboxes on high spec models or more interesting interior colour schemes.

Most of the Mercedes on offer are terrible, except this one. Its not a popular colour scheme, but it looks really original down to the AM only Becker, and being D-Jet offers sprightly performance:
