Anyway,
It’s not far from me so I could go check it out as well.

Will this SE just have a normal rear suspension?
Or was it like my (and your) 560SEL?

If it’s Aussie delivery it will have SLS. If an import almost certainly not.
Looked like an Aussie car.

I don't know about you guys, but a six cylinder in a W126 (and even a W116) does nothing for me.
I once had a 280SE and it bored me so much.

It depends which one and what you want to do with it.

For example, a 300SE is actually quite a bit faster around town than an Aussie 420SEL. But on the freeway a 420SEL is a better cruiser. 420 has really tall gearing. Drive a 300 and a 420 back to back and you'll be surprised. The late imported 420 is another story though. Obviously a 560 will blow both out of the water, particularly an private import.

The aussie 380 has a 3.27 rear end so it is much quicker. (vs a 2.47 on a 420 and a 3.46 on a 300)

The M110 suffered a lot from emissions, so any Aussie delivered car from 1976-1985 will be quite slow. But the import cars are rather lively - if you can find a south african car that hasn't been driven into the ground.

I have never had a luxury car that was less than a V8.

In general, I agree or I would not be selling my 300 for a 560! :D

However, I don't think its a hard and fast rule. If I was to rank each W126 or W116 in order of desirability, the eights would not all be above the sixes.

For example, I have never driven one, but I hear the 350SE W116 is not a good match with the lazy 3 speed transmission and the 280SE is a nicer car to drive. I would prefer a 450, but probably a 280 over a 350 if that makes sense.

There is something very appealing about a yellow Shadow.
You could be Christopher Skase on the run to Majorca; an SP bookie bringing home the bacon from Royal Randwick; Allan Bond or even some obscure and mildly eccentric Pom fleeing a train robbery. Of course you might not be any of these; you might just like a yellow car like I do.
Patrick, I think you should investigate further as the car seems to be right up your alley.
Of course if you find a Crown in the same colour that would be the way to go.
It could snuggle up with the Corona on cold nights.
