I'm actually going to have a look today..... Over 400000km on LPG and no books which is less appealing but might be ok if the rust isn't too bad. If I was to buy it I'd be selling one of my others
Mark, did you manage to see the car ? Black on Black, totally attractive, but ever more so impractical from a servicing point of view. It looked "okay" from a distance, especially with those wheels, but the quality of photography left a lot to be desired. It could well turn out a disappointment if one got to inspect it - that's my suspicion. Regards Styria
Yes I did go and have a look.... Good and bad news. Basically not what I was looking for and so I'll keep what I have for now. Some pics and comments to follow tomorrow
At VIN # 1542, a relatively early build, by the looks of it, a Euro model.
The first Australian cars came from Germany 1n 1978, the vast majority of them in 1979, very near to the end of production.
First of all.... The gas conversion!
The thermo fans, the smaller washer container, the speedo, the hydraulic Knob?
Obviously an early import with non-wood console and zebrano dash...
Yep it was originally green and I have a feeling the interior wasn't black either. Note the green scuff plates and the beige roof lining...
I think the repaint hides lots of issues and there's other body problems that aren't so hidden (not in those pics).
Both front n rear valves leak too much for a RWC and it needs 4 tyres and rear pads. AC doesn't work and neither does the aerial.
The good news is it was super quiet (new exhaust) and it has the Euro engine.... You're right Michel if it was mine I'd be converting back to petrol. I doubt the owner has the original Kjet stuff but he does have the engine fan, even though it sounds like the clutch is stuffed.
The current owner's had it for something like 23 years and bought it for around $40K. I wouldn't buy a car for that without books and I still don't see how they can just disappear (it seems to happen regularly too).
It's apparently got around 45 watchers on Ebay and it'll be interesting to see if it sells.
Funny that it had Silver Star number plate frames (where I used to work). Oh and I forgot to mention that I'd much rather leather than velour. But at least that was in good condition and the dash didn't appear to have any cracks.
I also noticed the odd Webasto sunroof which lacks the wind deflector of the Aussie cars. I'll have to check my Euro (Blue Flame) now to see what she's got...
The current owner thought it was a standard 1977 speedo, but I disagreed and wasn't gunna argue.
It may be that it was changed when the car was first imported and before he bought the car. The optimist in me thinks it was changed so it had a speedo in km only and the 260kmh ones were too dear at the time (or too hard to get), so a 450 one was fitted.
The pessimist in me says the original ones were in miles AND kmh....
