Other than what I said needs attention . No mods are planed for this car other than maintaining it and keeping it clean and tidy. It will be my daily drive car some what a nice place to be I hope.

When I first started reading the thread, I thought to myself "what an accurate way to assess and test the legitimacy of a used car". It was a first class report, and of course little did I realize that you had in fact gone ahead and purchased the car. I think it looks like an excellent buy - in fact, it is really a screaming bargain.

I won't read Matt's report again as I can still remember his reasons for buying the 'povo' version (as Oscar would have called it), the main being the comparative lack of gremlins that can rear their head with the more upmarkret models - not that there is anything wrong with a 280 version of what is still a sophisticated car in a number of areas.
You have done very well.

Regarding the 'Schlachtschiff" - it is "DAS" and not "DER'. Don't worry, that is one of the most peculiar idiosyncracies of the German language - getting the grammatical "sexes" correct - you either get it right, or you don't. Just one of those things. Regards Styria

I went for a look out of interest with no real plans. Then realised just how good the car was . Being correctly serviced and maintained with everything in working order with reasonable Km on the car.

Seeing as the interior and paint work really is in top condition save for repair needed lower left side of front bumper. What care products do you guys recommend for paint and interior to keep it that way.

Thanks for that I was looking at SwissVax or Zmol which I have used in the past. Mostly for my 6.9 when its painted. But may use on the S280 to keep it in top shape.

I have never tried the Swissvax products on one of my cars before.

Have you thought about using AutoGlym or Meguairs car products?

Has anyone ever used the Bates leather cream before for the use on leather seats?

Used to use Meguair's Tim but its not as good as it once was. Zmol is good and I have heard AutoGlyn is good. Just asking for ideas people rave about Leatherique .

Geoff, I now use Malco Flash Wax and Malco Leather Conditioner on GB (the Wax and Conditioner)) and on the 420SEL the leather product only.. It is easy to use, has had the tick of approval from SEL69L (car detailing specialist), and both products are reasonably priced and seem to work particularly well. I also use Autoglym Higfh Gloss creme, and it is also an excellent product. Regards Styria
