How about a dremel and cut the top of the cover and prise it off? Not the best solution I know but if needs must.

It may come to that.

Car is back!
Mechanic had to drop the steering box in the end to get enough clearance to remove the ignition lock.
The used lock supplied by styria is now in the car.

I am going to put the instrument cluster and some of the other trim back in myself.

Got the dash and other trim back in. Took the car for a test drive so went to take a photo next to the 280SE that has been abandoned in a local coles since at least may.

Gave the 280SE its first oil change under my care now its on the road and ready for use. Oil was fairly dirty so I am glad i did. Since I don't know the last one done, I'll do another one in 1,000km to ensure everything is clean and set a baseline.

I've driven the 280SE most days this week and so far its responding quite well to a bit of use.
Today I was picking the kids up, so the 280SE stood out in the sea of white SUVs at the school.

Passed a milestone today. Big gap in the service history so no idea if this is accurate.

Well I have another 1,000km on the 280SE and it's running really well.
Took it on the MBCNSW night drive to Bilpin the other night. The M110 really likes revs!

Anyway, I'll probably put the car on the market in the new year. Anyone looking for a nice but not perfect 280SE let me know.

This will change soon, new laws in NSW allow a unattended vehicle to be removed and impounded after 28 days of no activity. Unregistered vehicles immediately (there is a notice period)
This is welcome to styria and I. There is a smash repairer/towing yard next to us at Seven Hills who leaves customers cars in various states of collision damage "parked" on the street. It's Essential Motor Body repairs and the owner and his Tow Truck driver son simply tell anyone who complains to .... off. The council or Police can't/won't do anything as it's legal to "park" and if a fine is issued the owner cops it, not the scum bag. This guys business model is to hold cars there and charge storage, there is very little smash repair work evident.
Hopefully if a few cars get impounded the suckers he calls customers will steer clear.
