    W126 comparison

Obviously, I agree, but the days of inexpensive 560s are now well behind us. SEL and SEC. For example, there was a 560 on auction this week, with a shoddy paint job, badly fitted series 1 dash and average condition - but with low miles and some history that sold for $16k plus premium. '...

    W126 comparison

I wrote a buyers guide here which covers some stuff: https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/05/mercedes-w126-buyers-guide/ What is your budget? That would have a big impact. The 280 didn't fare well with the ADR regulations, so aussie ones don't like to rev. That is a problem as the M110...

    79 280SE

That is my next test, assuming this does not fix it. Since the filters are basically maintenance items I wanted to change the out first before I started on troubleshooting the system, especially as it felt like the car wasn't getting enough fuel.

I had hoped the fuel tank screen and filter would be all clogged up. they were dirty, but not all that bad. I've seen cars run properly with worse filters for example. My new screen and hose should arrive soon, so i'll put it all together and see.

    Camshafts

that's a good finding, and interesting given how different the m117 cams are. Makes me think the M100 cams are probably optimized for low end torque, which suits the nature of the engine and is also good for emissions. You could probably get a cam that sacrifices some of that low end torque...

    Wanted to Buy: 350 or 450SLC Feb/March 2022

Still listed! The advantage of this car is that it should have the full 185hp M110, not the detuned engine of the later cars.

    Car of the week

    1) 77 280SE: Sold for $2709 + 7.5% premium. Could be a good buy depending on why it needed to be tilt trayed away. 2) 77 450SEL: I think high bid was reasonable. Passed in at $5888, looks like reserve was about $8k. 3) 78 280SEL: High bid, $3800 looks like reserve was about $12k...

    Car of the week

Yes, lovely car in a great colour. A UK import with the high output engine but NO AC which would be a deal breaker for me.

    Car of the week

Four W116's about to finish on grays online today: 1) 1977 280SE: https://www.grays.com/lot/0001-20080211/classic-cars/1977-mercedes-benz-280-se-automatic-sedan?spr=true Looks like a good project if cheap enough, but needs a tilt tray. Ikon gold is a great colour. Has a nice interior...

Not a patch on the original Simon and Garfunkel recording! The original one before the embellishments is even better.

    Car of the week

Assuming its not rusty from its time in the UK and it has history to back up the mileage, that is a steal for an SLC as nice as that.

    79 280SE

I found an exhaust Y piece in facebook marketplace while I was in canberra visiting relos over the new years. Mine is cracked. This looks like an upgraded design with more meat between the arms of the Y.

    AUDI A7 3.0 litre TDI

A friend of mine has a VW product, I can't remember which one. Its has three transmissions replaced, two of them outside warranty and its had the piston rings replaced to stop the excessive oil burning issues.

    AUDI A7 3.0 litre TDI

I think many modern car oil change intervals also are too long. Our E350 has been serviced by the book yet there was some sludge around the cam actuators when I changed them.
