Also just remembered, I'm not one to name cars, but the older gent I bought the car off used to call it Lilian.

    Sold: 1986 300SE W126

I'm really glad to see the car go to a good home. I've really enjoyed it over the last six years and its been the primary way that I drove my kids around while they were still required to be in child seats.

    Our Newly Acquired W116

I can vouch for this being a nice car, I've driven it. At one of the MBCNSW night drives late last year, I had my 280SE and James had his 450SE, so we swapped cars for a leg of the run. was interesting to drive the two cars back to back. They are only a few months apart, both 79 models...

Sydney to South Australia in our W126

Great set of photos. I always love these stories of the cars being used as intended instead of sitting in a garage.

    Sold: 1986 300SE W126

Too right! Everyone wants the v8, and true 560s etc are very nice. But the 300 is faster than a 420 around town and feels more alive. The 420 is hampered by a silly diff ratio

    C107's 560SEL

On my trip down to Canberra last year, I had an annoying wheel wobble right at 110km/h. The tyres were quite new, so I don't think they were balanced properly. But due to covid, its been over a year since they were fitted. I took the car to a different tyre place today, who i thought did...

    [JT] Rover OHC Engines

It was always impressive what the smaller British car makers could do before they were amalgamated into British Leyland. Back in the 60s, makers like Rover and Jaguar were a fraction the size of Mercedes-Benz who were a fraction of the size of the big guys like GM, Ford etc. It's easy to...

    [JT] Rover OHC Engines

Here's a standard four-cylinder "2000" engine test-fitted to a Land Rover. It did work, and a handful of vehicles were built – but there were clearance problems with LHD types. The Styling Department came up with a rather elegant top cover for the twin camshafts of the Slant Four engine. This...

    [JT] Rover OHC Engines

I promised last week that I would complete the story of the Rover OHC engine, best known in the Rover 2000 but an engine that had a far more extensive history and very nearly ended up in Land-Rovers as well. So here is the second part of the story. As usual, pictures follow in the Comments and...
