Hey guys I'm new to w116s I have a pretty major project (for me anyway) that I have taken on and I am in the process of trying to get working my 1975 450se.I am having fuel issue. It is turning over and trying to start but to no avail. I have checked the Injectiors redone all the fuel lines, sparkplugs the fuel filter isn't the best and I'll be replacing that soon. My question is because my car Dosnt have the fuel accumultior or barrel dose this mean it is a d-jet system? Also if there are any other ideas around the fuel system to check any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance

Hi Oscar,

If you car is a 1975, it should be D-Jet.
You an tell for sure if you post the first six digits of your engine number or even a photo of the engine.

Bryce
My 450SEL is a early '75 (March/Aprilish) and a D jet. I'm Know they went to K jet in '76 as a friend has a March '76 450SE and it has K jet. The D jet has a U shaped pipe running around to feed the injectors where as the K jet looks like a spider.:D

Hi Oscar, I need to admit that not a lot is known by us on the D - Jet system. The one that were familiar are no longer active contributors, and in addition a number of mechanics have retired and can no longer help. I can only readily think of two repair shops that would be able to help you. One at St.Marys (Weststar Autos), but they have a fair waiting period before you can be fitted in, but you could also contact Silver Star Service Centre at Kingsgrove, who are very experienced Mercedes mechanics. They are switched on.

Unfortunately, D Jet is an expensive system nowadays, and parts are difficult to come by, and pricey. You could speak to Silver Star as in regards to the points that are located in the bottom section of your Ignition Distributor - quite often a source of failure on account of contamination, and also make sure that you have a good supply of fuel, that is a well working fuel pump and new fuel filter. Yes, you will need knowledgeable people to check out your car. Sorry I can't do better. Regards. Styria

I know a little about D Jet 😀,
Op, check your battery terminal wiring is secure , sometimes the wiring that powers the ECU gets loose, next check for fuel pressure, next with ignition on move the throttle and see if you can hear the injectors clicking .

good for you. 2 things to check first though is the timing chain as its failure could be bad for your engine and timing. Once done a fuel filter (near the rear) and also clean the accumulator if its been sitting for a while as crud goes hard and slows the flow. oh also check the fuel pump for pressure or lack of it which can lead to uneven running.

Thanks I'll look into these I was thinking king it might be because I didn't have a fuel additive for do these cars need them? Also I can't find a part number for a fuel filter the one I got was wrong is there a good place for this information? I've done all the fuel lines so the filter and the timing are on the list how easy is the timing chain to replace? Also the exhaust isn't connected so it sounds louder then other cars at the moment.

Another thing is the air flow sensor(I think) isn't connected this might be affecting things
