I wonder how many people are taken in by some of the tyre sales websites that claim to offer genuine discounts? I fitted Continental Contisportcontact SUV (MO) to the ML at $300 each fitted and balanced. Checking on a well known tyre sales site I see they are claimed to be discounted at $473. That is a remarkable difference and the local tyre bloke does not look like he is going broke so draw your own conclusion.......

Brian

It seems it’s easy to put the word discount in any sentence Brian.
It’s the same as some other brands offer four tyres for the price of three.
However, the three tyres are frightfully expensive.

I remember a tyre shop owner telling me he is putting his kids through university with the profits from European SUV tyres.
He said people buy them and think they an drive a 2.5 tonne truck like a car, and then wonder why they burn through tyres like this in 12 months.
The Porsche is apparently the worst, not because the car is any worse, but the owners think its a 911 and the tyres are really expensive.

For a great match of longevity and on par performance, you can’t go past a Japanese made Bridgestone or Yokohama.
All ratings and restrictions are exactly the same as Euro tyres with 10 times as much.

The true stand alone tyre is from the Bugatti Veyron.
$30k USD each, but you get a free brand new rim with it.
The tyre is made as part of the rim to deal with the extreme power the 1000hp W16 produces.

Interesting Brian,
I would like to see a longevity / wear test between these makes.
Can you fit four different brands for us on the ML test mule? :ROFLMAO:

It's a known fact that if you need performance (soft tyres), you'll be replacing them between 20 and 30K.
But if you're after longevity and are not too fussed about taking the ML or any other car around the corner at neck breaking speed, then you'd get easily 50K plus.
I did the exercise on my CLK 430.
I had Continentals that barely lasted 25K and they were replaced with Michelins that lasted more than 50K before I replaced my wheels and the tyres too (running ASV Pfree Puncture Free tyres)

Not a bad review.
Besides the Conti and the Nankang, I had never heard of any of the others.
I'm happy to buy a decent tyre... I feel safer for my life 🙄☺️

For most (non car) people, tyres are a begrudged purchase.
They can’t see them or enjoy them while driving, but they have spent a lot of money on them.
But are 4 of the most important safety items on a vehicle.
Funny how some people think.

Interesting read Brian.
Like Michel, I have heard of Nanking and used them on quite a few cars, but of course none of them were destined for anything extreme, but I was very happy with what they did on classic cars in the wet and dry.
Interesting that the worst tyre was the quietest.
How does that work?q
