Just saw this old thread. I just did a 4,000km trip with a group of old benzes. This is what we actually used across all four, from my recollection:
1) Complete set of belts.
2) zip ties (fix a few things, including a broken SLS rod)
3) voltage regulator
4) Spare oil (although wasn't an emergency, could have bought at a servo)
5) spare coolant
6) various spanners and sockets
7) paper towels
8) fuse
We had to buy stuff along the way, some innocuous like bulbs other bigger like an alternator and viscous fan.
