Housemates not home yet, can't get to the scanner cause it has his artwork lying over it... Not gonna touch it, cause i'll get shot!! (click here and you'll see why I'm scared to put my hands on it)


Anyway, so until I can get the graph up tomorrow, the output of Team W116 - Car #1

is.......

175HP (131KW) at the rear wheels.

Only did 3 proper runs...

The emissions / mixture readings were OFF THE HOOK!! We leaned the mixture a little bit and it gave us a couple extra horsies...

Though, according to the workshop & a reliable source they called, the WUR (Warm up regulator) is forcing it to run too rich.. A reco'd WUR and a bit more fine tuning should apparently see it over 200hp at the rear wheels.

I'll be going for another run on the dyno in the coming weeks after sorting a WUR and a few other things... 116 heads won't be going on for another 4-5months.

Saw what a talented housemate you got. Love the Batman v Superman drawing. Do ya reckon he could do a w116 caricature, or better still a "deathproof" w116 caricature?

It'll be good to see what that other kjet tuning place records the HP as and what their thoughts are as to what it should be capable of as is, but especially after the WUR replacement. Is the 225 factory figure flywheel or Rear Wheel?

Well done cam - looking fwd so seeing the print-out!!! Couple of questions...

• what gear did they do the dyno runs in?
• How many kms has your engine done?
• What year model is this car
• Does it have all the pollution gear like mine?

Try to get a printout of the Air:Fuel ratio - would like to compare against mine

So here it is.

Oscar, not sure bout the factory figure, but i'd imagine that it's flywheel?!
As for the caricature, i can only ask? Something like a 116 Optimus prime?
Or maybe some tough lad with benz logos for eyes?


Cam, as follows mate:

• Dyno runs were done in Drive with foot to the floor.

• KM's is a weird one.. The speedo that was in the car when i bought it had 150,000 on the clock. Though when I pulled it out, realised it was a 350 speedo, which is why it wasn't accurate and also why the reading was so low.. definately swapped. So don't know the true reading.

• Mine's a 1978 vintage

• No pollution / emmissions gear (euro model)

The Air / Fuel ratio is on there. The printout confuses me a bit.
I remember seeing 175HP on the monitor, and the graph relates to this as well.. Though he hasn't put the figure on there. And also the line jumps around a bit. The little drop - then spike - what's doin there? I remember on the last run it sounded like at a point the rear wheels slipped breifly.. would this be what that indicates?

Either way, i'll be getting another run done next week after changing a few things and see how she goes.

If the rear wheels slipped the HP reading would drop, but so too would the recorded speed, which seems not to have happened. I would ask the dyno operator what causes the sharp variations, but as a guess I would think either a minor electrical glitch or, if your engine was clearing out a lot of built up carbon at the time, a valve or two may not have shut properly.

My final guess is the next dyno run will show more consistent results as a result of your "Italian Tune Up" – but please don’t blow it up.

Thanks for confirming John!! I thought it might be something to do with the engine 'stuttering'... With a few little tweaks (and the italian tune up) the next run should be much smoother.

This is more like I expected to see...

These are 8 runs we did, 2 of them being the ones you see on youtube.

The engine is a 13B PP race engine with 51IDA weber:

This a conservative chart, as we were still running-in the engine, we backed off at 8500 rpm. 232RWHP at 8500 I was stoked!
