It has been proven that tyres and other expenses on cars that are not visual or audible enjoyment of the owner are deemed a “grudge purchase”.
This means people only buy things like tyres, wipers rubbers, and probably even car rego and servicing begrudgingly.

I’ve always used the 10 year old principal, and not the 7 or 8 years mentioned above, but my cars have always not reached 2-3 years old for tyre replacement anyway.

However pretty much any car I have purchased over the last 20:years, have always been over 10 years old, so off they go.

The XJ12 Sovereign had beautiful tyres, and were like new, but well over 10 years old, and so was the spare.
5 new tyres, for her and some peace of mind for me and now the young chap who purchased it.

I’ve seen what years and years of spraying, or painting of tyre shine or other can do to rubber, and of course the big killer of tyres the Australian sun.

I’ve also seen many a classic car destroyed on a Sunday drive where old tyres have blown out without warning.
Horrible.

Please don’t stuff around with old tyres, get them replaced ASAP.

It's simple. New tyres are urgently required if you are breaking traction so easily in the wet. Imagine how you will go with a full on panic stop.

Brian
BF Goodrich we’re never good in the wet. 😳
I’ve had many sets on my American cars in the past (because BF Goodrich was the tyre to have) and they all failed in the wet. 🥺

The BF’s always looked great.
I remember my brothers car (a Holden panel van) which was the first car in our family, and certainly the first car I had seen with “fats” on it.
The HUGE white lettering on the sidewalls was just amazing.

However I did grow to hate tham as it was my job to re white them every few weeks

Now a 70’s Corvette Stingray wth these is just THE best eye candy one could hope for.

I agree with you Pat. My 73 Vette had the customary fat white letters, although these were Kelly Chargers.
But my 57 coupe had the T/As57-Coupe.jpg
