That'd be nice mate, Im currently working my way through cleaning under the bonnet of Lili too, So far Ive found A/C hoses I thought to be black were actually terracotta and im trying to remember how to make alloy cam covers look better as well as a general de crud because I promised Alex id show him the car when I was finished and she was back on the road.

8 cans of degreaser so far and I have an 1/8 of the job done up top.

None the less I will organise photos of the engine bay of the 260E.

Drove the 260E again today very smoooooooth ride I must say!

Hey Mark did I mention the "450" I went to look at that was actually a 280S?

"Mate I know its a V8 coz its got a V there" he said pointing at the twin cam covers on the M110 2.8.

"Count the plug leads mate" (Mate is pronounced Idiot peckerhead)


So peckerhead comes back with "It's a V8 mate coz they dont put 4 barrel carbs on 6's"............

I should have bought it because it is a Manual and interesting but I left it for another day.

Engine degreasing that can be a fun job and yes degreaser does sell for a good pricee.

A touch over a buck a can (Trade) and the new store branded stuff is as good as the Wurth stuff.

But what I want is a spill tray like the huge black poly ones I used to have and a wash gun n 40 lt of parts washer fluid that doesn't evaporate too fast.

Sluice the engine bay down with that and then use the cans for the finer work and some autosol or similar for detail work although I am still impressed with how clean and nice my AAV came up.

A manual W116??? Buy it, buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if it is a 6.... Whack on a supercharger and some extractors!!!

I just cut up a broken 1000L plastic tank for cleaning stuff and flushing coolant....

Im biding my time Mark and sent a few people over to "Look" at his V8 Benz but the guy smokes too much dope or crack im betting and has stuck to his guns so far.

I will call again in 3 or 4 months and see whats going on.

Yet another unfortunate owner that thinks they have the real deal. With the average performance of a 450, they must wonder what all the fuss is about....

A giveaway is the lack of headlight wipers and the chassis number.

BTW Tim I'm sure we'd all love to see pics of your clean engine bay!

He does mention that he's owned it for 17 years!

Dunno about anyone else, but I'd feel pretty cheated! 17 years with the wool pulled over my eyes!! Obviously the owner doesn't service the car themselves, otherwise they'd find out pretty quick that many 450 parts don't fit.... Over all that time you'd think the engine number might've been checked, or the mechanic would've said something to prompt a closer look!

For a prospective buyer, sheepskin covers and dirty wheels can be a real put-off. This car doesn't look as though it's had much care , nor attention. Regards Styria

I don't think this looks too bad. I really like sheepskins if they're custom made and well fitted. As long as they're not covering up nasties... But that's unlikely under a custom set as they're far from cheap and if you can afford them, you can afford to fix the seats first.

I don't know why people try to sell things without giving them a good clean. There's often more effort involved in placing the ad! Cleaning and being honest are the most critical things if you want to achieve top dollar. Being reliable and having an idea what you're selling helps too!!

Not to mention pics at night or wet cars...........

Last car i sold mid winter and I went to a huge Mobil servo in pissing rain at 2am.

30 mins of Chamois work and those huge sodium lights under the canopy and the car looked like a million dollars and a bargain at only 26k.

Sold 2 days later for the asking lol
