The premium price for any type of vehicle using a non conventional powertrain will come down, however it will still take a while.
The car companies still want to sell cars, and making these “green” vehicles so expensive will certainly push people away. Only the true dedicated are willing to pay super expensive prices for this type of vehicle.
This is where Toyota have done so well, they are well down the path of development of hybrid, thus the prices are fairly reasonable, but you may notice other companies have surpassed them when it comes to plug in, or plug in electric hybrid.
MG, have seemed to have leap frogged them all, now producing a 5 star ANCAP (and 5 star NCAP) plug in electric vehicle.
I won’t be surprised if they produce a hydrogen fuel cell series production car soon, where others are still playing with the idea.
No doubt about it, the Chinese are wanting to dominate this market, and they are producing products at a frightening rate of numbers and are of extremely high quality.
What I have seen in the Chinese truck & bus market is that if they produce something that can be improved, or made better, it will be fixed and in production within months, not years as other manufacturers do.
In fact the MG is already outselling it’s Toyota competition here in Australia right now.
