Well it seems no one was curious on another thread so I’ll post a separate one here… This car will likely be my last 6.9 & was purchased to replace Moby; which I’m sad to say is beyond viable repair & will be sold in due course. Skye (the Fangio car) recently sold so hopefully the new owner will give it the respect it deserves.

The good parts are that Goldeneye has a full set of books & is complete (unlike Moby). Some of you may notice the bonus discovered in the boot & part of the reason I bought the car in the first place!

The bad parts are rust in the outer sills & under the brake booster but fortunately none in the firewall. Clearly in dire need of a fresh paint job & some attention to the interior!

Plans for the car are to use it as a development vehicle for intake, exhaust & EFI. I also have a boot spoiler & premerger AMG badge which will be added. When the rust repairs are complete, I may consider a colour change to something more unique! Not quite sure about wheels at this point. Oh and some plates that might be fitted if it eventually goes on full rego & not the club scheme.

It would be beyond my financial and personal capabilities - maybe if I was thirty years younger. Good luck with the project Mark. BTW, is this car now another, or additional 6.9, that you are planning to restore, use for parts etc. etc. Regards Styria

Yes not a small undertaking but now the herd is much smaller so it’s far more achievable!

Skye is still in my possession and I’ll remove her from my signature when she goes. So all I have left is Moby & Goldeneye. Plus some spare parts of course. Moby will be sold whole to make undercover room for Goldeneye.

Mark, Golden Eye - now there is a Newie - have you had it for long ? Maybe I should just spend a bit more time on TK. Regards Styria

N.B. No need to put me wise - I still say it'd be too much for me right at this moment. You will need a fair bit of your time to be devoted to Golden Eye.

Oh I forgot to mention I scored a crashed w140 500SEL 5sp which will donate its trans to Goldeneye when I sort out the other issues & fabricate the adapters. A 6.9 with more gears n paddle shifts would be fun… oh plus a HPF2 upgrade. Rear buckets would’ve been nice but I had to sell the donor car

It’s amazing how stiff the w116 chassis is compared to other vehicles. Here I jacked up the drivers rear corner & it lifted up the left rear & right front so it was rocking bw the right rear (jack point) & left front wheel! Try doing that on a Ford or Holden & all other wheels would still be on the ground with the chassis bending like a banana!

Good news it appears the engine isn’t seized. A new battery & earth cable might solve the no cranking or it could be the starter has issues. I’m in the process of flushing the coolant, to avoid the problems experienced with Red Bull…

Next step is a high pressure flush then oil & filter change. Then check the fuel system/flush & new filters. Once running I can add a cooling system cleaner, flush again then add coolant. Whew

Mark, it's beyond my comprehension how badly Golden Eye has been neglected. Of course, it's not the first one that I have come across badly neglected 6.9s and unless you have a good supply of your own spares, especially for the interior, I reckon Golden Eye is likely to break the bank balance. Still, you're young, you've got time on your side, so it may yet turn out to be a goer. I think you deserve it.
Just digressing briefly. You know the 420 you purchased some years ago, it had a great interior. Perfect carpets, really nice seats, neglected paintwork and, not to forget, a non operational engine. What did you finish up doing with that car, and were you actually able to put some of the various parts to good use. Regards Styria

My main issues have been far too many projects & getting way too far ahead of myself so I couldn’t focus on actual progress. I will keep plugging along to get this one operational then if things go to plan I’ll have some serious bucks to throw at it & get it to a condition that I’ll enjoy. If I wasn’t that determined I’d have no cars whatsoever & would be travelling the world until the money ran dry. At least I’d own a house but I’d also be depressed & defeated.

Oh your old 420 was stripped of the interior & other smaller items I needed before being sent to the wreckers unfortunately. Sad, but it provided parts for Midnight Express which is a 220kW 560SEL in black/black, so the sacrifice was worth the effort. I would normally save the doors, but in that case it was a grey import without side intrusion bars.
