My E250 Estate is still returning 5.1 - 5.5 litres per 100 kms. Thus I am happy.
I'm not sure what the mileage will be for my QANTAS A380 during August and September. Probably a bit higher....

Sleep comfortably in your business class beds on that A380 Brian.
The Rolls-Royce Trent is one of the quietest and most fuel efficient jet engines.

Today the Fuel in the Tank determines the Ignition Timing via the Knock Sensors
Yesterday it probably was Pinging..
My first C Class 180 was factory set for Australia to 5% BTDC.
"Me" Father always ran his F J Holden on 91....... so it is good enough for me.
But the early C Class could be made to run as the Makers Designed, by changing a Resistor in a wiring Line under the Air Cleaner. Now at 11% BTDC using the proper Higher Octane Petrol.
But who listens, a very high earning neighbour would not spend the extra Dollars for the correct Petrol. ..... Then complained about the lack of performance !!!!

I use only 98 petrol and high-detergent diesel such as Amplify. Amplify is several cents more that standard diesel but you get an equivalent discount if you are an NRMA member. It does not matter though as I use so little.
Once I had to run the Benz on E10 because there was nothing else available and performance was sluggish.
We have low qauilty fuel in Australia but that will change by 2024.

PS; Patrick, apart from that lovely thrust at takeoff I hardly heard the A380 engines and yes, I managed to sleep almost all the way from London to Sydney - apart from a few bites to eat and a couple of cups of tea....

Will the fuel be upgraded to 100 Octane ?
as I understand it, that is the Premium Fuel in Japan.
So even on 98, my new Mitsubishi 1.5 Turbo SUV may be running retarded...
I'm sure that the Ignition Mapping is the same for here... let the Knock Sensors do their Job.

I have been traveling in Brisbane with work all week with our dealer network, so I hired a diesel Carnival.
You may remember when the new dash etc is available I will be ordering one using a Volvo car allowance instead of a company car.
As Brian mentioned these new modern diesels use very little fuel.
Considering during our dealership tours, and a total of 7 on board the whole time, the Carnival is returning 6.1L/100k.
This Carnival has 124,000 on the clock (high for a rental) but is such a pleasure to drive.
I’m looking forward to ordering one.
Possibly still can’t order until 2023.

Just saw a very detailed and informative Program on "Transport Emissions". Cars just a blip on the Radar..... Electric Cars are not an answer... They consume more Energy in construction and also Rare Minerals and the Fact that the Electricity need to power them come from Fossil Fuels ( (90% ?)
We are being conned....If Science can Harness Nuclear Fusion and/or safe nuclear waste disposal, to produce cheap Electricity, down the track for instance .Maybe Yes. .....For this centaury probably still Fossil Fuel.
