Here is a list of year by year colours for the W126

Generally the move to conservative colours started in the mid to late 80s so the early colours are more vibrant. Its interesting that some colours like Black with red interior were really popular in the USA and hardly seen here in Australia.

Generally the move to conservative colours started in the mid to late 80s so the early colours are more vibrant. Its interesting that some colours like Black with red interior were really popular in the USA and hardly seen here in Australia.

Sadly, the selection of colours by the Australian importers was as boring as you could imagine.
And that hasn’t changed over the years.
A, B and, to a certain extent, C Class had (and still do) the option of many bright colours, while E and S were served with 50 (or so) shades of grey!
Seems like the product ordering staff for the ‘upper’ models were simply colour blind!

I've seen plenty of Impala W126s for sale, 420SELs in particular. I would say its pretty popular.

Bornite on the other hand is quite rare
