Four W116's about to finish on grays online today:

Looks like a good project if cheap enough, but needs a tilt tray. Ikon gold is a great colour. Has a nice interior, still with original becker. Has rear headrests, either from a wreched 280SEL or a rare option on a 280SE. 11602422093167

typical for grays, the photos are terrible and very low res.

this car looks ok on the surface, but the more you look at the photos, the more you see what is wrong with it. Cheap respray, interior cobbled together from multiple cars etc etc. I suspect there will be buyers remorse here. 11603322063264

The green interior is rare and cool, but I would be worry about the tip of a rust berg on this car. That rear bumper is seriously rusty and there are a couple of other spots you can see in the low res grays photos that would make me think the rust goes deep. There are also a number of faults in that interior that would be hard to sort given how rare green is. 11602522118306

Probably one of the last ones imported (12/80 compliance). A really nice car in an attractive colour combo. My only real fault with it is that its not fully optioned up and the sixes are better in SWB form in my view. 11602522156420. Painted hubcaps better than the alloys of this period. I suspect the odometer stopped at some point, as while its clearly a low mileage car, I suspect its double what is shown.

1) 77 280SE: Sold for $2709 + 7.5% premium. Could be a good buy depending on why it needed to be tilt trayed away.
2) 77 450SEL: I think high bid was reasonable. Passed in at $5888, looks like reserve was about $8k.
3) 78 280SEL: High bid, $3800 looks like reserve was about $12k, which is silly for a car in this condition.
4) 80 280SEL: Sold for $15,434 + 7.5% Huge bidding war between JA from Dural and DY from Woolloomooloo. DY won!

As I say, I have a healthy respect for the M110 with its lovely balanced M110 engine but I feel the need for some grunt this time, something that pulls a big chassis easily, rather than just!

This one is a fake - looks generally well done, but started with a sedan base frame, not a station wagon frame like the real ones did. It has a sedan VIN too and no decapatable DS23s were made....

sometimes the fakes if done well still bring good money because so few of the real ones were ever made.

sometimes the fakes if done well still bring good money because so few of the real ones were ever made.

Looking more closely, there is other stuff wrong with it too. The base car was obviously not a pallas model, but they have added some of the easier pallas embellishments, but not the ones that take a bit more work to fit. They've also done things to try and make it look like an earlier model, such as the earlier door handle and white steering wheel, but not others stuff so it ends up looking a bit like a miss-mash. There are also a few examples of shoddy work, such as the exposed screws for the door cards. These use a series of clips, and exposed screws are normally only seeon cheap D Specials that have been repairs with materials from bunnings.

The 3rd nose cars are quite rare, most of them are second nose. Last year for the chapron was 1971...

A bit rough around the edges, and mis-labeled (its a 200T, not a 230TE) but its a rare wagon with a 5 speed manual
