No I am seeing someone on Monday about it. I don't wont to do anything myself on it as I will probably stuff it up further.

If it needs surgery, let me know...;)

surely the vacunm line can be traced back and open?

I cannot imagine cutting up the car to fix a common problem

Took the car in this morning. Explained the situation and showed him the hole behind the number plate (he said this this did not neccessarily suggest a previous boot problem as this is where they would sometimes run the lighting cables when attaching a tow bar). Anyway cut both vacuum hoses (although i could only see the one he told me there had to be two, one to lock and one to unlock, which there were) and not knowing which was which pumped air into line 1 and no luck.
Pumped air into line 2 and...
and...
STUPID S.O.B STILL DOESNT OPEN

Left car with him.
Am over it...

You could always take the car to Styria, have the lock drilled out and get into the boot.

He can then have a new lock installed and repair the vacuum lines.

Basically: if the lock doesn't open with the key there is a mechanical fault or tolerance fault in the mechanism. The vacuum lines shouldn't prevent the mechanical operation of the locking mechanism when a key is inserted.

So as the Queen of Hearts complained! Off with it's head.

Boot is finally open.
After driiling the lock out he was able to open it.
For those that are interested I will try and explain it as best I can. Apparently the mechanism behind the lock (that turns when you turn the key) broke and it fell in such a way that it stuck between the lock and the release hatch so when you pushed the button in it was blocking it from releasing???? oh something like that.
I am just estatic to have my full array of underwear and socks back

Glad to hear that you have liberated your undies and can at least walk around like a civilised person again.

And now don't forget to ask Styria if he can supply a new complete mechanism to you.

I've just got onto this thread now.

My thoughts (when early on there was talk of cutting panel work) would be to rather first source a replacement trunk lid, then go through the lid rather than the rear panel work. Drilling the lock is definately preferable though.

Too late for any more practical suggestions S-class, this thread has already crossed over into that other dimension where surreal stream-of-conciousness verbal jousting takes over, you should have twigged that by now - Queen of Hearts? - Viagra? - no, no more useful hints on unlocking the boot will come from this lot.

Yes that would have been the way to go, however I dont know how easily and how much you can pick one up for, then it would need to be resprayed. However going through the rear panel would also be an expensive exercise to do properly.
Just glad in the end I could get in through the lock
