Gents,

In reply to a question Benzboy asked a while ago on my W220 thread,
I now do not have a Mercedes Benz in my garage :(

A person came to look at my W220 when I had finished it, after he saw the ad.
When he arrived, he looked at the W220, and was quite happy with it.

However when he saw the Bismarck size shape under the black car cover he said
“What the hell is that?”

I removed the cover, from the back very slowly to expose the magnificent Nautical Blue SEL like a well choreographed strip tease.

“WOW” is all he could say when he could speak:eek:

He asked if the car is for sale, and I said maybe.

I think I mentioned to you guys I’ve sold a few cars recently to build a granny flat for my mother in law.

After a week of talking he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, so now it is in the hands of a local elderly German chap, who gave up years ago looking for a near mint W126.

He is so very happy, and he comes around with the car often to have coffee and chat cars.
He said he hasn’t had anyone to talk to about cars for years after his neighbour passed away.
He’s a nice man, and I’m very happy he loves the 560SEL.

As I also sold the wife’s Mini, we decided to look for another later model convertible.
I had spoken a while ago to a guy selling his 2010 SLK200 which I posted on the car of the week, but we couldn’t agree on a price.

So when my daughter in laws boss decided to trade her car in, we bought it from her.

A lovely 2009 Audi A3 1.8TFSI 7 speed DSG.
Deep Sea Blue (LZ5A) with Light Cream (AD2020) interior.

Ive finished the under bonnet detail, as well as exterior detail and stone chip touch ups.
Full service, wheel alignment and 4 wheel balance.

I just have the interior to detail and job done.

This is the first Audi I have ever worked on.
A nice learning curve, and learning lots.

Thanks Brian,
It would have most certainly been a Benz, but when this car came along I thought as it had been a very well looked after one owner car, we’d give it a go.

I’ve always liked the early Auto Union cars from the 30’s.
How much Auto Union is in a modern day Audi (except the logo) I don’t know :D

I forgot to reply to Brian on this.

I’m not sure how tech savvy he is.
He doesn’t text nor have email.

But I will enquire.

Thanks Bryce.
It’s a nice little car, and the DSG is an interesting transmission.

Hi Patrick, it looks an excellent choice and furthermore it looks to have been beautifully maintained. It is certainly a pretty car. I understand that the DSG transmission, if the "dry type", can be troublesome and difficult to fix. A good friend of mine has owned a Passat with the "wet type" transmission, and it has been completely trouble free. That's what he tells me.

My oldest boy has just purchased a late model Volkswagen Type R and it certainly has all the bells and whistles and goes like a scolded cat. I understand that the R model is the equivalent of the "hot" Audi 3. His son, in turn, has just sold an ''07 Stage 2 GTi - the go to hot hatch nowadays. The power was unbelievable. Regards Styria

Hi Styria,
Yes I have heard the same, this transmission is the “wet” clutch type apparently, and seems ok, my wife finds it funny as it sounds and feels like a manual, but shifts automatically.

I haven’t even put it in sports mode yet, so I am not sure what will be revealed by the 1.8. Not a weapon of any sort I am thinking though.

The TFSI technology is quite an interesting read, and quite a good and efficient but different way for an engine to work.
Here is a link re TFSI.

You are right,
I have been in some of those hot VW’s and wow!
These things can peel your eye lids off.
The power developed by these small capacity turbo engines are unreal.

Gents,

An update regarding my 560SEL sold to an elderly German gentleman.

Here are some pics of what he has done.
Seat covers
Steering wheel cover (I never liked these)
Tow bar
25mm hub spacers to the rear (later model larger wheels were fitted by the previous owner)
Repaired scratch on rear bumper
Wheel arch moulds

Also,
A quick video of him giving her a little bit of a foot full
That twin 2 inch system sounded unreal.

Looks like he is taking care of it. Patrick - we need some updated photos of the Toyota and the Holden please. I have seen them elsewhere so perhaps you can have a thread called "From Patrick's Drinking Chair"?

I’ve been tempted by several Audi’s recently but the theft factor has me a little worried, plus the fact my daily is out in the weather most of the time.

BTW those wheels on the 560 look like ones from a 124?

Great the new owner is enjoying the car. I find the spacers a bit difficult to understand though, especially as it looks like he is using stock wheels and they are illegal without engineering in NSW.

I also find it strange to add a towbar to a car like a W126. Certainly I would be very loath to buy such a car with a towbar as I would assume the transmission has been under stress.

The old chap restores organs.
So just a simple box trailer for him Bryce.

The tow bar and all fittings were given to me with the car.
It was never fitted, so this is the first time it has had a bar fitted to it.
