Anyone know if these items are the same on W116 and W126? Or are they a better design that could be adapted? Would 560 cam followers and tappet compensators be interchangeable with ones on the 6.9?
In the end, Mark, did you decide to save many components ? I see the engine and gearbox were removed, any other items, such as gearbox, diff., FRONT brakes (Motec wanted them) etc. etc. Was it all worth it, would you do it again ? Regards Styria
I saved the whole driveline, brakes, sunroof, bonnet, seats and brackets. Plus various other bits and pieces that I thought should be retained.
Time will tell if it was worth it and it was certainly time consuming. But it did give me a great insight into the cars and allowed me to compare W116 and W126 from the inside. Certainly far more plastic on the W126 and other items that aren't quite as sturdy as the W116.
Would I do it again? Yes, that's the plan as I have lots more to process.... Hopefully not to the same level since time ticks by so quickly and I don't want to spend all mine stripping cars! One day I might get to DRIVE one on a weekend cruise!
