Well done Tim, that's great news! Did you end up painting the wheels and bumper? I bet you'll be sad to see her go, but you'll find it very exciting now you have the funds to buy that elusive concours W126!!! Yay for you! :D

Thanks very much guys appreciate all the positive feedback that is great!

260E has grown up and left home flown the coup gone to a new home today!

I dropped off the car to Ian the new owner at lunch time today handed over the keys, took care of the RTA rego transfer paper work.

Ian and his Wife are very happy with the 260E.

Ian his two Mercede one is NEVER enough I guess is it? lol.
:D

Ian has a white 1973 250 W114 Automatic and a gold 380SE W126.

No I did not get the wheels and bumper painted 260E was sold as is.

260E was sold for $6200 cash money there you go Styria I answered your question mate.

Now the search begins for a good condition 300SEL W126 I have a cash budget and aim to stick to my budget.

300SEL has to have which would be ideal for me:

leather interior, all options, service history, Aussie delivered.

Champagne, smoke silver, blue exterior colour would be ideal.

Let me know if you see or hear of a 300SEL W126 for sale with the above mentioned specs and features please?

Cheers guys,
Tim.

In a W126 there is a very special place to check for rust. Open the boot and there is a boxed panel that is directly underneath the upper channel where the bootlid meets the bottom of the rear screnn. Put your hand in under the bottom of the rear screen and feel even before you take a light and look.
I was offered a very lovely 300SEL at trade price from an MB dealer here in town and was very tempted until I felt that panel - even the dealer was shocked and had not picked the rust. Of course it can be repaired but my attitude would then be to keep looking.
There are some very smart colours available in a W126 - Antelope, a dark steel grey, Paget (?) red and a rare deep yellow-sludge colour that is very appealing. I have a friend with such a colour and when it is polished it is spectacular. Keep an open mind about colours as sometimes the less obvious colours can bring a lower price and be better buying. Antelope over Doe is a wonderful combination (or am I showing my age?)
Regards,
Brian

That's the same problem suffered by Ford's AU. By the time you realize it's leaking, the rust's already started....

Never really considered selling the car, Tim. That said, one day somebody might make me an offer I can't refuse.

At the risk of sounding like I'm bragging, I've not seen a better 300SE around.

I take it Simon the 300SE is not for sale then?

What a shame looking to buy a W126 just how yours looks.

What did you think of the valuation prices I sent you from the Drive and Carpoint websites for your model W126?

Cheers.

Like I said, Tim, have never really considered selling the car. Never say never though - somebody may have deep pockets.

Be patient, the right car will come along for you.

Sounds like you were thinking of selling the car Simon just reading from what you wrote earlier today on this Forum?

What's your price Simon for the car?

Cheers.

Dirt, Sir? Not on my watch.

I'm tipping you've gone through a few vacuum cleaners in your time!!! :D

Tim it sounds like another case of if you have to ask then you can't afford it!! Consider the highest price you've seen for a W126 in this climate and it'd be somewhere around that. Or think of a price and double it! ;) :)
