    I'm glad i'm retired

Jus:(t viewed a detailed Video on how to repair the Steering Column Lock on our 2 W204 C Class Mercs. A common fault and expensive. What an elaborate job it is to strip the Steering Column to replace the small Electric Motor which operates the locking mechanism. I learned, contrary to popular...

    stopping distance

I read that the Peugeot 308 had the best stopping distance in a test of the best and the worst. Range Rover not so good. But I have always believed that the Tries stop a Car and that the Brakes only slow the wheels down. The Peugeot's sister ..the Coupe did not match the Sedan.... it had...

    The Rover P5/P5B

I have always viewed these Rovers as the poor man's Rolls Royce. In the fifties I went round Australia in a Land Rover fitted with the O/H inlet Engine .. never missed a beat... Also .. Datsun 240Zs were the poor man's E Type. I have had both.

    Air Con mystery

Do we have a Gurue on Air Con in our midst ?? My Climate Air in the C 250 2011 year works well when it works .... If the temperature is in the mid thirties with the car left in the Sun the air Con blows hot Air for 5 to 10 minutes before the compressor kicks in. There should be an interior...

    used car trade in values

A good rule of thumb is 10% after 10 years for any Car in reasonable condition. $8K offer for my C250 C Class top of the line with 80,000 ks. Friend Impressa cost $25,000 valued at $2,000. Works for most of them.

    Low end Torque

Never a truer word... Horsepower sells Engines .but Torque wins Races. I now know why our C 200 CGI drives much better than our C250 CGI. There is no noticeable power gain until nearly 4000 RPM. in the C250. Whereas the C200 's power comes in at round half the Revs. Same 1.8 Lt. Turbo engine. I...

    finding a new tire

Beaurepaires came to the rescue today in Wollongong. A large hole in the tread in the wide rear tire driving on the Motorway . Not usually stocked, as it is 18 inch with  wide rears on a C 250 CGI. It took a couple of hours to track one down. But it could have been much worse ie a Run...

    Tuning

I have always known that there is no silver bullet to sort a problem. Today at long last our C 200 CGi performs as I thought it should. I have been through everything over the past month and the last thing was to clean the Mass Air Flow Meter and clean the intake Valves. I had thought of...

    Electric v Vacuum

As Cars shun Vacuum controls the modern trend is to use Sensors and electric motors. With our two C Class CGI Mercedes I could not find a vacuum take off point to introduce a cleaner into the Manifold to clean the intake valves. As only Air now passes them with direction injection there is no...

    Lexus

How the '89 Lexus changed the World !! Well people will post anything.. I drove one of those early Lexus 400s... a barge for fat Yanks perhaps ? The Engine was good for hundreds of thousands of miles ,granted. with normal maintenance, Cam Belt etc. The two Door Soarer import with a Turbos...

    Glass cleaning

New screen seems impossible to clean ... Small white Dots all over. Claying has improved them. Then cleaning with "Invisible Glass" doesn't leave screen streak and smudge free. Looks ok until the sunlight hits it. ??????

    The Rover P5/P5B

:eek:The fault is Rovers in fitting the cheap over stressed BW 35. The original design was American for 2.5 litre engines in much lighter Bodies.. The American versions were much more robust than the UK and Australian productions. Heavier Gear Sets to handle the Torque. The non American built...
