Rover P5 3 litre Mark III

Styria sent me these photos of some work he is doing on the Almond rover. He's been playing with a beefier fan with more blades and a six blade water pump impeller to make these cars run cool on hot sydney days.

    BM2 Battery Monitor

I think it will be quite handy for cars that don't get a lot of use. Can quickly see how things are going with the battery just by walking past.

    BM2 Battery Monitor

A while back I ordered a couple of BM2 Battery monitors. Its a bluetooth enabled battery monitor that you can [it to your battery and get information about battery health, charging rates and so on to your phone. They are not expensive and its quite a useful tool to monitor the health of...

    V W Twin Clucth

On the topic of transmissions, I've always found it interesting that Mercedes-Benz are the only one of the smaller manufacturers (that I can think of) that design and build their own transmissions. Obvously the likes of GM, Ford, Toyota etc do it. But the other contemporaries of Mercedes...

Just standard Michelin Energy XM2 205/65 R15, date code is 2016 so not that old yet.

    V W Twin Clucth

The whole saga of the Citroen Traction Avant Automatic is really interesting - Andre Citroen was going to use the Sensaud de Lavaud transmission, which during testing would overheat going up hills. Sensaud de Lavaud blamed the citroen engineers for sabotaging his transmission because it 'wasn't...

    C107's 560SEL

Yes, had a wheel alignment done. Checked the tyres and still getting some squeal around corners, even slowly. I think its coming from the drivers front. I wonder if this will setting down once the tyres start wearing after the alignment? I'll have to drive a few more times to see.

    C107's 560SEL

I had my final covid shot today, so that meant about a 12km drive each way to go and get it. Overall the front suspension seems more supple. I am getting some tyre squeal, so I'll need to check the pressure of the front tyres as well. the SEL drives pretty well for 335,000km.

    C107's 560SEL

Seems to. But it was only a short drive from the workshop where the work was carried out and home, so will need to take it for a better drive later.

    C107's 560SEL

Had the front suspension re done today on the 560, including control arms and sway bar bushings. While there also had all four brake hoses changed. The sway bar bushings were likely original as brake booster and fuse box need to be moved to get them out. Control arms were possibly...

    Car of the week

I think somebody got a decent buy on a rare car that is likely to be a future classic: https://www.grays.com/lot/0001-7796167/classic-cars/1993-mercedes-benz-320ce-convertible-rwd-automatic?tab=FAQ%27s I'm pretty confident the soft top is inop as there are no photos with it down, and all the...

    Tyres

I wonder if it is the combination of improved run-flat technology, and run flat's paired with air suspension?

    Tyres

i guess it depends on the model. A lot of modern mercedes use run flats, which I wouldn't use.

    Ceramic paint treatment?

Its probably also worth comparing brands, as I doubt they are all created equal. I will be interested to see what brand is on the SEL once I remove the pads.

    Ceramic paint treatment?

Interesting your experiences with low dust pads. My 560SEL presumably has such pads. It makes very little dust. I don't like the brake feel though, if I compare to the 560SEC, which presumably has the regular mercedes OEM pads. The 560SEC gives me much more confidence. I don't know for...

    Car of the week

Michel, this could be one for you. needs a bit of bodywork, which I am sure Jerry could take care of in a couple of days: 1975 350SE Manual Trans, $10k https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/517882182958729/

    Penta wheels for the C107

I'm not familiar with them. I know there are also the Pirellis but they are even more expensive than the Michelins.

    Tyres

Ouch. I think it would make more sense for me if I drove a lot more kilometers. I would want to get the full 40,000km over 10 years out the tyres at that price I think. Michelin don't make even their regular tyres in the sizes I want though. I wonder if they would sell a whole lot more...
