I originally purchased my 450SE probably 12 years ago, primarily for the purpose of fitting its interior to another 450SE that lives (lived) in the Snowy Mountains. Once the interior had been removed, I was going to part out the car. However, it did not take long to realize that I had a really good car on my hands, with just about everything working but only a thick coat of Carport Dust hiding what was a beautiful car.
Approximately six years ago, I moved to my present address, and obviously the car followed me some three months later. It was then that I decided to make a concerted effort to recommission the car with a view of selling it, hopefully to a good home. Unfortunately, many commitments and projects interfered with the restoration process, and things were put on hold until the beginning of December last year, being 2016. I had a genuine buyer lined up who was willing to pay a reduced, but fair price. C107, or Bryce as we all know him, was looking for the right 450SE, and he liked what he saw on TK, where I showed pictures of the car and there was also a running commentary on work carried out. Now, anyone that wishes to view these details, I refer you to my thread titled "Styria's 450SE. There are many pages of details and photos.
What should have been a simple and straight forward restoration job turned into somewhat of a nightmare. I just could not get the car to run properly. BTW, the car is unregistered, but I can readily supply engine and chassis numbers to a prospective purchaser. In my efforts to right the veritable wrong, and that is non-starting and rough running, I purchased many quite expensive items, such as:
New Water Pump - $290.00 New Fuel Injectors (8) $280.00 New Fuel Filter Fitted fully serviced Fuel Distributor Battery 8 months old - the proper sized unit - new cost $230.00 Four correct size replacement tyres - say $300.00 as well as many, many hours of working on the car during the last three weeks. All to no avail - when taking a compression reading, the left bank showed 160 lbs. (close to) on each cylinder. The right hand side ? No. 1 - 20lbs., No. 2 - zilch. Removal of rocker covers this afternoon revealed no damage to camshafts, chain, rockers, but I still do not know the reason for the low compression reading.
Now, a new home is still needed for the car. Bear in mind, that this is a 95% rust free car, with a perfect interior. For starters, new carpets all round, including sill panels, knee pads, gearbox tunnel front and rear. Please look at the pictures in Styria's 450SE thread. Seats are perfect, even the back seat that normally takes an absolute caning in the Ch. 116 range. Take note of the new dash pad (its cost - $450.00), door panels have been repadded (fronts) at a cost to me of $180.00 (another common Ch. 116 issue with foam turning to dust), recovered rear parcel shelf with brand new speakers, an original Becker Mexico Radio with original MB speakers performing beautifully and other items too numerous to mention that have been attended to, such as perfect camshafts, new timing chain etc. etc. As best as I know, there are no issues with brakes, suspension(self levelling), gearbox or differential.
The price ? $2800.00, worth every cent, but I am prepared to sell parts individually at a good discount from new price. Look, anyone interested in whatever, talk to me and I will try and accommodate you as best as possible. Please see pictures of some of the work carried out in the Styria's 450SE thread.
