Is anybody considering going to the next Funday Saturday 4 July?
I'll be heading up with a mate, but not sure if I'll be taking the 450SE. We're considering taking the CLS350 this time to give his WRX a run for the money again! :D

Reading the rules for the day (under FAQ's of the site) it seems to be a great introduction to track driving for those who haven't attempted it before.

I'd recommend anyone who hasn't done this before, or has but hasn't driven at winton, to head down for a crack. It's a very fun track.

I'd love to go, but can't un-fortunately, concentrating on making it there in August though for the FFCC Supersprint (with the other Team W116 members).

It is a very reasonable price indeed - what was it - $30.00 ? How cheap. Unfortunately, it's just a tad too far for me - it's got to be the best part of 650 kilometers from Sydney. Looks good though. Regards Styria

It sure is a good price at $30, wish I could make it. I can't see for that price it being a full-speed day but who knows...

I'll be there on 23rd August, most likely in the 190E.

The FAQ's say 80% speed... if there's anyone pushing it way too hard, then they'll kick you off the track. So Michel, you'd be right at home. :p ;)

$30, for an introduction is great guns...

I'll be there on 23rd August too.. Can't wait actually. :)
Michel, any idea whether you and Ant will have your beast up and running by then?

80% of what? A V8 supercar?

I've been aware of this 80% rule for years and it always amuses me. A Ford laser is still slower than an XR6 or XR8 being driven at 80% of its potential.

I'll add to the chorus - everyone should be back on home soil now so hows the W109 coming along?

mmmm might need to change those plans after my trip:eek:

Looks like I will be up to my neck in other activites.

I'm still happy to help with the spanners but the move and other things will not allow me to commit as much as will be required to do the job properly.

I was looking over a 300SEL 3.5 at the local MB specialist yesterday. I don't often get to see them close up. They are very different to the W116 aren't they.

Ant I can't make any sense of your email, either I'm too dense or your being too subtle (probably the former)...

Is your W109 going to be available to turn into a track car as per discussions prior to your recent o/s trip?

Who is the intended driver?

What is your intended debut event?

Basically, once you have those three worked out its pretty easy to formulate a timeline to get the thing into a track-ready state and it doesn't cost a lot of money or time. Its mainly to address safety issues. And we can help with that. No one expects a car to win its class or blow its other competitors minds on its first event (although its not bad when it does). Aim to get the car on the track as quickly as possible - the car will soon tell the driver which items need to be addressed in time for the next event. This is the way all Teamw116 cars have been developed and it works well without excessive budgetary demands. Adrenalin also plays a part in this and its fair to say that once you've done an event and started to set some benchmark lap times then its quite easy to look forward to future events. There is some truth in the notion that motorsports is better than sex, esp. if you've been married as long as I have.

I'll follow up shortly with a checklist unless Cam or Oscar chimes in first.

Michel, sounds to me like you're scared of hard work?!

You're not an armchair mechanic are you? :p ;)

Would I be right to assume, that unless you find a car that's under $300 (or free frome someone), someone else is happy to do all the preperation on the car and maintenance and they're happy for you be the driver and take it round the track and thrash the t!ts off it, then you won't be entering the motorsport arena?

....i'm not angry, just disappointed. :D ;)

Let's just get one thing straight....

It was never my intention to do any physical mechanical or other work personally.

The original plan called for a cheap, yes cheap, (because times are tough and money is not flowing from the creek next door) racing car .
The idea was to have fun at a very reasonnable price.

I would have paid a mechanic to do any serious mechanical work had the need arised.
Why? not because I am 'scared of hard work' but because I simply don't have the time.

As far as bodywork, well, I do own a body shop that would have handled that side of things.

Then Ant came up with the idea of 'offering' me a ride, while Karen would also learn and hone her racing skills. I thought it was great.

Now that this plan has gone by the wayside, I'll have to reconsider my options:

Do I go back to the original project (by the way, times now are even tougher than before), or do I drop the whole project and keep enjoying testing late model (some very fast) cars at Oran Park whenever I want.

You might also remember that I have had my share of fun, having drag raced and indulged in circuit racing for years, so I am not desperate, but simply wanted to have a bit of fun as long as it doesn't cut into my work time.

Sorry if you are dissapointed Cam, and it seems you have written me off...

Remember, it aint over until the fat lady sings :p

Woooaaaaahhhhh there.......

Sorry mate, I think you've mis-understood me. :(
Emoticons are supposed to demonstrate the joking/whit side of things. Guess that's what sucks bout typing on the internet, and forums in general.

Anyway...... all that aside. I'm not doubting that you have many years experience in racing cars and testing new cars at will whenever you want. Sure wish I had your job. Just ribbing you a bit, cause I know how much fun you'll have if you come along for the ride with us.. But hey, didn't mean to put you down mate. Not my intention at all.

So... I hope you do find something that you can bring along to the track and do a few supersprints in. The more the merrier!

But hey, I guess the fat lady only sings if you make it to the finish line. ;)

peace
