G'day all, I just registered yesterday :),

Is there a trick to removing the washer pumps without removing the suspension reservoir, or is that a must?
Both of them have seized.

Hi TJ450 (Tim), thanks a lot for joining TOPKLASSE. The two windscreen washer motors are relatively easy to get to.

Initially, remove the headlight wiper and the panel behind which the washer motor is situated. You may also have to remove, if fitted to your car, the charcoal canister - quite easy, pull it upwards and out of the way.

Next remove the three hexagon 10mm self tappers that secure the hydraulic reservoir to the Radiaror Support panel-just to give you some flexibility with the plastic tubing.

Next step then is to remove the four 8mm hex self tappers that secure the two brackets to which the pumps are attached to. You should now be able to lift the little suckers up and unscrew the motors from the brackets. It's not too bad a job. Regards, Styria

Excellent, thanks Styria. Mission accomplished! Now I just have to pull them apart and free up the cogs... hopefully.

Generally speaking, you hope against hope that the washers themselves are in good and efficient working condition. If not, there is the second hand option, but nowadays spare parts from wreckers are inclined to dry out. It wouldn't be easy to adopt an after market alternative as space under the bonnet is at a premium.

One other issue is the "exclusive to the 6.9" washer bottle. Last known price, some years ago, was about $AU600.00. THey are all gone. I went the alternative route - I had an engineering shop manufacture an aluminium copy of the original for me at a cost of $300.00 about twelve years ago. Still have not connected it. Not brilliant. I'll have to find a photo of the unit - it is quite a work of welding skill. Regards Styria
