I have Dads C240 in my garage for a few repairs, replace the drag link which comes with tie rods as a complete unit, $355 for the part and a few hours on my back, easy.
Now the fun bit, the car drives wonderfully when you drive it gently. Floor the pedal and it just plays stupid, it will not gain revs, change gear or increase speed, being an electronic box it seems to me the computers are not talking, any ideas

Hi abl567, I'll be the first to come up with the same brilliant idea as you yourself have advanced. Unless I am mistaken, JohnS has the very same model and I believe he has his serviced by Westar Autos at St. Marys.

I would have said that it was time for a pow wow between the car's computers and the diagnostic troublefinder machine. Regards Styria

Problem solved, it was the MAS (Mass Air Sensor) in the inlet before the throttle valve.

The tools required to replace it?

A flat screw driver. yes, that is all

1 hose clamp and 6 over centre clips, 5 mins and a VB and it was done:D

Oh, and $300 for the part.

As a result of the daily grind and late night session with the OBD plugged into the C240 it is back to good health. It is bloody fast again.

Today I had 4 new Michelin 195/60R15 fitted, tomorrow the new drag link will be fitted, time permitting, then a wheel alignment.

The difference in the way this car drives after a little REAL care is simply amazing, to be subtle I will bury this in the middle of this post. This car was recently taken to a MB specialist for a service after a promotion letter offering a inspection service and free OBD scan. My mother took it there, not me

At pick up the car had recieved a B service, new plugs, all filters, $160 for a fuel filter, yep...$160. List was $237 so count your lucky stars.
The total bill was just over $1000. $16 each for spark plugs

And it was close to undriveable. I spoke to the owner of the shop that did the "work" and he replied that he does not thrash customer cars so a full throttle problem may not be discovered...this car would not gain revs up a 5 degree hill at partial throttle.

It took me an hour of thinking and 2 mins of work to fix it, as per my earlier post. Why didnt the shop pick this up.

Was this a dealership or an independent?
If it were to happen in a dealership you have a high degree of leverage after such an event - includling the ability to request a field report on the car at no cost to yourself.
If it were an independent then you have no such support.
