W107 Flasher canister

Where on the 1972 350SL would I find the turn signal canister (flasher unit)

Hi EagleBill, on the 116s, the flasher unit is located below the instrument panel, but it is normally accessed by removing the covered knee pad and the large black plastic heating/cooling distribution panel behind the knee pad. It is normally located by four self tapping screws.

I would imagine that you would have the the very exact same situation with your car, but access is probably even a little more difficult as the 107 is a smaller car physically. In order to actually get to the unit itself, you will probably have to lay on your back, face close to the brake pedal and legs up in the air gripping onto the back cushion of the front seat. One of the jobs not quite so nice. The flasher unit itself is black, of rectangular shape and has a three pin connection (should have) that fits into another larger connector. Hi, this response is a bit late, I have an 1981 107 and the canister is directly behind the instrument pod. You can't miss it. if you are not sure put the hazard lights on when you remove the pod. My instruments are all electric but the 350SL will have a mechanical oil gauge so watch the oil when you disconnect the line. P.S. if you are looking for a louder flasher sound you probably won't get it. They are very quiet even the replacement ones. I used a cable tie to pull the canister back to connector which helps the sound to resonate.
