20/3/08:
Thanks to a wrecked 1971 GT Falcon we now have some much-needed high-speed downforce:
(Please excuse the tape holding the thing down - it was just a trial fit at this stage.)
21/3/08:
Have been meaning to pull the LHS cam cover off and have a look for oil starvation (the RHS is easy to check by looking in when the engine is idling for a supply of oil to the camshaft). Took it off today. Looks yucky but at least the cam lobes don't show any pitting or gouging, indicating oil starvation:
The oil distribution tube looked OK but was loose on one end, so I replaced the placcy end but with one with a bit tighter fit from the parts bin.
Question: Where are the oil drainbacks on these engines?, I can't see how the oil in there would drain back to the sump...
Its been about 4 days since I've run this engine, but even so the inside of the cam cover seems decided dry:
I can also see some scraping marks from the timing chain, but I don't know if this is normal or not...
I.
