Just reading the latest copy of the MB Classic and on page 49 there is an article about the MB Classic Edition engine oil can anyone tell me is the oil available to buy here in Australia?

For the W124 owners article on pages 45 to 48 "The Fab Four", a couple who own four W124 Mercedes very interesting article.

For the W126 and W107 owners article on pages 9 to 19 "Reveal The Legend", 500SEC and 500SLC featured in the article.

Brilliant magazine the MB Classic!

Cheers 260ebenz.

It's a nicely presented magazine, but I just wish the price could be halved. As it stands, it is quite expensive. BTW, does anyone know if it had its origins in "In Aller Welt" ? Now, that was a beautifully presented magazine on Mercedes vehicles, but it also proved its worth as a travelogue. Some fascinating countries that were explored from the early fifties onwards. Michael,

I have been buying the magazine for almost 3 years now and it costs $14.50 from local Newsagent.

How much are you paying Styria and purchasing the magazine from local Newsagent are you?

Just subscribed to the magazine online via the MB Classic website my subscriptions should arrive in November and MB Classic are sending me the "aviator design", wristwatch can't wait to receive that!

Quality of the MB Classic and MB Enthusiast magazines are brilliant!

Cheers.

It's rare that I'll have the time to flick through these mags at the local newsagency, so thanks for reporting on the contents of this months edition!! I'll only buy them if there's something specific that interests me. The 500SLC article certainly does, so I'll head down to the newsagent and have a closer look. :D

Page 48 there is an article about the MB Classic Edition engine oil can anyone please tell me is the MB Classic Edition oil available to buy in Australia?

Details about the oil from the article:

Oil costs 47.60 Euros for a five-litre retro design canister of oil.

SAE 20W-50 oil os also suitable for use in further model series such as the W107, W116, W123, W126, W129, W201 and W124.

Thank you.

Hi Tarek,

My understanding of a W126 500SEC is that it's powered by a 5 litre V8. No pollution equipment meant that it may have performed even better than the 560SEC (5.6L) that was imported into Australia. Nice car, but the roofline was a little awkward and there were plenty of plastic parts to break (far more than the W116). The engines were very durable, but I have heard of some now starting to blow smoke. Not sure if that's due to the usual valve stem seams, or rings. They had similar power to the 6.9, but far less torque. Top speed was about the same. I think they had a 4 speed auto, bigger brakes and updated driveshafts.

Hi Mark, you're pretty right about the power output of the 500/560s when compared with the 6.9. I am fairly certain that the two smaller engined engines will out accelerate the 6.9 (not by much), but of course they have a lighter body - at least, that's what I believe. I have only ever driven the 380/420 versions of the W126, and both engines, particularly the 420, are lovely revving, sewing machine like engines, unlike the somewhat gruff feel of the 6.9. I must confess to have a particular liking for the Coupe versions, such as I saw at the recent Mercedes concours.

I particularly was impressed with this 380SEC......

although this black 560SEC wasn't that shabby either.....

The next one, totally different, but I just couldn't help but show it.....

It is of course Michel's 500SL AMG. Nice car.......

Regards Styria

N.B. Don't know how an engine bay can be this good after almost thirty years - just unbelievable.
