This was on the USA forum "mercedes-bounces@mercedeslist.com", and it seems worth passing on to 116 & 107 enthusiasts as a last resort for reviving a fuel pump.
You might try a trick that George Murphy once offered. Remove the pump from the car and attach a piece of hose to the pump outlet. Stick the free end of the hose into a can of diesel fuel and hook the pump up with reverse polarity so it runs backwards. Aim the inlet port into an appropriate container. This can help as sometimes the pump gets a bit jammed up with particulate matter and back flushing can occasionally clear things up. Be sure to use diesel instead of gasoline due to the inherent fire hazard especially if your electrical connections arc and spark a bit.
