Hi all,
I notice that on the AutohausAZ site that the 6.9 fuel injectors are the same as the 450 and the 280.

Would a "larger volume" injector that would fit the 6.9 make it go harder, or is the standard one the best.

I'm just trying to see if I can wring out more grunt from the beast.

(Of course I'm assuming there is a larger injector that would fit......)

...I was pretty sure they were different, though i'm probably wrong.

However, i'm pretty sure Mercules may be able to point you towards a newer / bigger injector that could possibly fit?!

Mercules?

fuel and air need to be metered correctly... if you put in a bigger injector you also need to put in more air too - unless you have a turbo or supercharger, the engine will just run rich, chew up fuel, cough out smoke and make less power!

In all honesty, if you could make extractors fit onto a 6.9 i reckon you would make crazy power - they are the single most restrictive part of the entire package. Fuel would not need to be enhanced unless you went forced induction.

G'day Bandy, just to add to what the mechanics GURU has already said (Mercules) - extractors No. 1 job and just about impossible on account of restrictive space. Furthermore, a mate of mine (I do have some !) has opened up the intake venturi and cleaned up the inlet manifold of various restrictions, but the altered parts have not yet been installed. Again, the 6.9 set-up is totally conservative when compared with Yankee installations and mods. Regards Styria BTW, just as an aside, the 6.3 set up just about surpasses the 6.9 air intake arrangement as far as volume is concerned. Probably one of the reasons why a 6.3 revs more easily.

As one who isn't aware of the details of a 6.9 exhaust manifold, I ask the question... that is:

'has AMG or Lorinser ever produced a performance modification for the 6.9 or 450 motor? If so have any of the honorable members of this forum had the opportunity to inspect one such animal and looked to see if they have managed to make a tuned exhaust system?'

Of the limited number of AMG 6.9's I'm aware of, I am not aware of any having modified exhaust manifolds. Mine certainly has the standard items.

I know of a reputable exhaust shop that will 'make' extractors for any car at around $2000 to $3000 a set....;)

And their quality is superb:D
