I would like to get the burl walnut console in the 300SE refurbished.

Can anyone suggest who could refurbish the console and any idea of what cost is involved?

Burl walnut console has 3 cracks but fornutaley the console is not faded.

I have contacted Mercedes for a quote for a new console let me say this much very expensive!

Anyhow any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

I'm sure the Godfather might be able to help you Tim,

He was instrumental in getting the Burl wood on my 690SEL all refurbished ;)

That would be good Michel.

Wait to hear from Styria.

Yes Helmet the console is in good condition no argument there.

Just the 3 cracks in the console and there is a piece of wood bracket underneath the console that has been broken which needs to be repaired.

What process is involved to refurbish the console?

Cheers.

Good news guys!

Spoke to a bloke who specialises in wood grain resto's for cars.

Going to see Wayne next week he use to have a 1988 420SEL he refurbished the burl walnut console for his V8.

Wayne was highly recommended by a MB Mechanic in Newcastle who has had W126 console refurb work carried out before and Wayne is very good.

Post pics of the end result.

Photo of the hair line crack in the console.

Photo of the piece of wood bracket that seals the console in place.

Wood bracket has actually broken off from the console but the console can be re-glued back on.

So I thought I will get the console refurbished all together.

Going to see Wayne the woodgrain restoration guy at Tenamabit 10am tomorrow.

I will post photos when the console has been refurbished.

Dropped off the console today at Wayne's woodgraining.

Wayne had a green 420SEL and a blue Diesel Range Rover SE YES a Diesel!

Couple of Land Rover's both ex-Army vehicles.

Great to meet Wayne today and he showed me a completely restored woodgrain dash for a Jaguar.

Also restoration completed on woodgrain for a boat.

Workmanship is superb.

Would you believe yeah I know it's a small World two blokes spent quite sometime talking about Mercedes cars.

Left the burl walnut console with Wayne.

And he is also going to restore the woodgrain on the ashtray as the woodgrain is quite badly cracked as well.

Wayne has restored himself the burl walnut console in the 420SEL.

420SEL is a green colour 302,000kms 12 months out of rego, I believe Wayne maybe be going to sell the 420SEL have to confirm on that.

All in all I am very confident Wayne is going to do a really good job with restoration.

Once the restoration is completed I will post up pics and you can see what you think.

Cheers.

To restore the ashtray wood panel and console price is $250 to $300 tops.

Spoke to Wayne before hand and got a quote to carry out the resto repairs.

Console and ashtray wood panel are both at Wayne's workshop.

Wait to hear back from Wayne when the resto is finished.

Hope that answers your question Styria & Tarek?

Tarek good luck with the red pig and blu as well good to hear from you Tarek.

You did advice me over the phone 2 weeks ago how to remove the console Peter thanks for that.

Remove the console (burl walnut) slide it forth remove out the ashtray and coin box under the ashtray.

The wood panel underneath the console broke off when I went to refit the console was not happy about that!

Did not even apply any pressure to remove and refit the console but the wood panel being 24 years old it broke off.

So that's why the console and ashtray are being restored.

There you go Peter hope I answered your question mate?

Cheers.
