When jacking up the 6.9, I pull the suspension knob to the centre postion, which I understand is the 'lock' position. However, the car still drops on it's belly once I've jacked it down. What's up?

Hi (Springbok !) guys - like the terminolgy ? :D I would suggest that, more than likely, the problem lies with the pressure regulator valve - the cast iron unit on top of your tank. I know that S-Class has rebuilt his distribution valve and I would imagine he's done it right, which re-affirms in my mind, and from practical experience, that the regulator valve is faulty.

You can partially disassemble the unit and clean it out as best as possible - success rate should be no worse than 50%. Regards Styria

Mine definitely works but I rarely use the facility - I lower it on the hoist and with the weight taken by the hoist but a little lower than ride height I start the engine and wait for it to pump up.

Equally I have picked up my car on a couple of occasions from being worked on by others and it has been put in the service position and not completely pushed back into the normal position. The car handles so much better on the drive home but slowly settles over a few days and won't pump up until you reset the position correctly.

But it sure makes for a very effective if temporary "Sport" position setting.

Probably not good for the car but very effective.

Both mine on my current and previous 6.9 never behaved as I thought it was supposed to in the instruction manuals...

My simplistic understanding of it was whether you were lifting 1, 2, or all 4 wheels off the ground, if you set the control to the middle position then when you lower the car back down that wheel or wheels retains the same level as prior to being lifted...

I still set whenever I do work on the car but I no longer have any even remote expectation that it will do anying other than drop down like it always does.

Maybe I'm overlooking something very simple here. Generally when I've had the cars off the ground, its to work on the hydraulics - so the system is depressurised, and obviously the locking function is then defeated. Perhaps I must try just lifting and then lowering in the lock position.

Hi guys, I'm just scratching my head a bit to jog the PC between my ears into action. To the best of my recollection, the front and rear systems operate independently of each other.

Before attempting to lift the car, the lever is pulled into the lock position. The last pressure cells I replaced was the one on the left rear. I just lifted the rear of that side, and when the job was completed, both rears went down, but the fronts stayed up. Also, if I remember correctly (again), the same happened vice versa when I replaced the front pressure cells. Regards Styria

I simply pull the lever in the middle position and it locks the four wheels...

Never failed

If I am working on the hydraulics I simply raise the car on the hoist and so long as it has been running before lifting and the central sphere has pressure it will automatically depressurise when lifted so that it is very easy to work on the system.

On dropping the car again it needs to be pumped up again before it can hold itself up.

If I want the car to be moveable when I drop it but will be unable to start the engine I lock it before I start the lift on the hoist - and yes it does hold the pressure in the system so long as the system is not opened.
