Not my car this time, but the following demonstrates the importance of checking oil flow.
A friends 6.3 developed a noisy top end so we pulled the cam covers to have a look see, this is what we found on #3 exhaust cam lobe
Notice the burnt oil and damage to the following edge of the cam lobe.
the oil feed tube that sprays oil (removed in this pic) was blocked around cylinders #3 & #4, overheating the cam and the cam bearings on the middle 2 cam towers causing excessive play and noisy operation.
A spare cam was available so we set about replacing it and the rockers and associated components as a set, here are the "new" parts set out and ready to install

Now for a trap for young players, the replacement cam towers didn't want to seat on the heads, they are located with 2 sets of dowels in the head, one set solid and independant of the bolts and one set hollow around the top cam tower bolt. The old towers left the hollow dowels in the head while the new towers retained the dowels in the towers when removed from the doner head so the dowels were removed from the towers
Replacement cams and oil feed rail fitted
Valve clearences all set and cam covers back on.
Idle and CO adjustments and all is well in the world
A couple of clicks out of the pump
And a healthy idle and CO reading of 4%, 6.3 spec is between 3.5 and 5
