$11,000 spent on the engine with no price listed for the car - he probably thinks it's now worth between $20 - $30,000. A 380 W126 is (my opinion only) worth between $5 and $15,000 no matter how good.
He said it was re-built 2years ago. He went back to the fatherland for a while.. and now he's back, and would like to re-coup money for what was spent.
But realistically he said if he get's $4.5-5K for it he'd be happy - and "ze buyer vould be verry happy!" he said.
Car is located about 100km's from Canberra. If anyone wants me to check it (I doubt it, but maybe) then ping me some petrol money and I can do it.
Not sure.. Ring Hans and ask. He seemed pretty nice on the phone.
Personally, I reckon for the price it would be a pretty good example. And if he says, "I'd be happy with 4.5-5K then that means 3-4K CASH would get it.
The thing that gets me with w126es is the plastic skirting - it's like MB discovered "das plastik" and decided to use this new wundermaterial as much as possible.
Having said that, $3k for that car would seem a good deal if Cam's estimates are correct. Maybe $3k, a stollen and a case of Heineken? Das werde klasse.
Maybe the guy would prefer Oettinger ? Honestly, it is by far and away the cheapest beer you can buy - Pilsener, genuine German with German retrieved spring water from the mountains and it sells for $29.98 for a doubledozen bottles. Great value, and taste, especially after you've had four of the puppies to get you started. Regards Styria
If it can be had for the money being talked about, I might go for a drive/ride on the weekend and have a look myself. If I do, I'll post some pics and a report here.
