116 Performance upgrade. Is it possible?

Hello fellow MB fans. I have a 4.5L K-Jet 116 in great condition and I am interested in giving the old beast a performance upgrade but not a complete rebuild. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers to all. Paul

Is there anything wrong with your engine?
Or do you want to increase the performance?

Michel Hello. The engine is in good condition as is the rest of the car but I would like to increase the performance if possible. This car is a project for me as it is not the correct or genuine colour so I dont mind altering it from the original and waiting until a good 6.9 comes along to build up as a club car. After reading Mercules thread on tuning his car using a dynamic road system where he obtained a big increase in power by advancing the spark and leaning off slightly, I think it would be hard to obtain cheaper power increases than he did.

I tend to agree with John S, however, if you are in search of serious power upgrade on the cheap, you can't beat a good Nitrous Oxide System.
You know, the stuff where you push a button or flick a switch and there is an instant increase of 50% power....
Obviously not the stuff you would continuously use, but rather to have a more 'instant' acceleration on demand.

The fordedes will live, one day, soonish... probably early next year. Should havce cooled off by then.


Back to topic, cheap power (but could be costly) yes, NOS.
You could also be a pioneer of sorts and chuck some 350 heads on it...increase compression etc.
