W116 Instrument Clusters

[Oversize]

So I took a few pics while I was fixing Blue Flame's instrument cluster.... Yes they're all dirty, but they hadn't been cleaned when the pics were taken. Note the differences:

I noticed that all had dates stamped on the back, which helps ID the year of the vehicle:

Very interesting Mark now if you put the face of the 280 tachometer onto one of your 6.9 clusters that would confuse the c@#%p out of the experts at shows.

My Euro has 5000 tacho . But as has been talked about before there is no apparent reason for this or difference in rev cutout.

5900 revs are my guess which I am sure is a lot higher than factory cutout. Enlarge image that was the revs my car went to on 230.1 dyno run.

Are you using a standard 6.9 rotor or something else?

Don't know Mark haven't changed a thing in that regards. But when you boot it in first it hits 5500RPM before upshifting which I though was very strange . Then as I said compression has been checked its over 170 each cylinder . And corrected horsepower on dyno run was 288.9hp almost 3 over brand new Euro output. And exhaust was 1 7/8th inches each pipe on that run.

Might pay to check it so you don't over-rev the thing.... You may not have a limiter fitted.

BTW there's no way my dodgy bipass would work since the spark will still follow the least resistance to earth. And the spring was still functioning.... A heavier spring would increase the limit.

Possible I asked about revs on dyno run they said rev limit cut in at were it ends on rev graph. So may have to investigate more.

Yes it appears to be a common mileage . 263k was on the odometer of my old 6.9 when I killed it.

Geoff, I have lost track of your progress on the 6.9. I am sure there must be an update somewhere but I have been quite slack for a considerable period of time as far as posting is concerned. Perhaps you may provide members with an update. BTW, what do you think of TK's new layout and features ? Would be interested in your opinion.

Mark, how about you and your 6.9s ? Any progress ? I know that you have sold a couple (one to Darwin I believe), and you seem to be concentrating more so on the W126s. As a matter of interest, have you ever carried out any work on the 420SEL I used to own. Would love to get an update. Regards Styria
